???You guys are pathetic! Pathetic!??? yelled Rep. Marty Meehan, D-Mass.

In a quick move to put Democrats on the spot, the House voted to reject a quick military pullout in Iraq. The measure was defeated by 403-3.

What was pathetic is that the democrats didn’t put their money where their mouth is. Since they really believe (so they say) that troops are occupying Iraq, then they should be principled enough to vote as such. Clearly that was expecting too much.

The French appear to consider the riots over yesterday. The destruction each night went from quasi-normal to a normal average. Prior to the riots an average of 100 car-becues per night was average. Three weeks of rioting brought a tremendous amount of damage. A summary of the damage (riot and normal) is given for your consideration:

10,000 cars torched in riots

130 police officers wounded, 2 people murdered

100 factories, industrial buildings vandalized/set ablaze

The same to some 100 schools, sports centers and government buildings

Included 13 Christian cemetaries, chapels and churches and at least 4 Jewish centers and synagogues and one attempt to set a mosque on fire

This lasted for a very long time. I appears that France will have a state of emergency for another three months after parliment voted on Wednesday.
