(Hat tip to Captain’s Quarters) The Arizona Republic reported that assaults on border agents doubled in 2005. Organized crime’s involvement and increased opportunities to profit from smuggeling is leading to more conflicts.
The increase reflects the growing influence of organized criminal syndicates in border trafficking, officials said, and the higher profits involved in smuggling migrants across the border for as much as $2,000 per trip.
World Net Daily reported this last week that U.S. Border Patrol agents were confronted by what appears to be Mexican miltary carrying military weapons. This assualt happend on the U.S. side of the border after our agents had stopped a truck running drugs. The truck was being unload by border patrol and Texas state troopers when a military looking group approached, forcing the out gunned law enforcement agents to pull back.
Some suspect that special forces trained for the Mexican military by the U.S. have since begun working for the drug cartels. Whatever the situation is, it appears to be increasing and certainly such an incursion cannot be tolerated any longer.
