State of the Union Address - 2006 Live

This is the first live blog I have attempted. It may be a little disjointed but worth the attempt. A few quotes I was able to gather as it went on. All other material is a summary of the content.

Watching the Address using both Fox News and CNN. I have a feeling that the post speech talk on CNN will be more nauseating than on Fox. But CNN will probably provide more fodder for the blogs.

After watching the Justices the commentary on Fox talked about offering Olive Branches. CBS talked about how shaken the Congress is due to the hearings and scandals concerning Abraham. The usual civility, walking the fine line and reaching out mantra was pouring out. The emphasis seems to be on the need for the President to narrow the divide if anything will get done. Seems like they forget who holds the majority.

It begins with a standing ovation. Fox mentions the number of photographers on the floor as the President entered. 9:09 pm

What an ovation at the introduction at the podium. Mention of Martin Luther King’s wife starts off the speech.

Here is the spirit of goodwill. The President will do his part. Will the liberals. Don’t hold your breath. Things will be heating up with the upcoming mid-term elections. 9:15 pm

Seeking the end of tyranny abroad, a long term commitment and goal. It is the essential ingredient for the peace of America. Certainly it is not a hopeless dream and is Bush’s strong point. The high points were Afghanistan and Iraq with the voting.

The freedom of others in repressive nations is required also. One of them is… Iran!

“We love our freedom and we will fight to keep it.” 9:19 pm

We cannot abandon our commitments and retreat to our borders. The battlefield would only come to our soil.

“… and we will never surrender to evil.”

Listing the high points and successes we have made so far. We are also proud to be allies in the cause of freedom.

“The road of victory is the road that will take our troops home.”

“Second guessing is not a strategy.”

Kerry was looking just chipper while hanging his head. What a shot. Kerry probably is thinking “I should be giving this speech.”

Sargent Dan Clay was remembered. He died in Iraq last year. What a nice tribute to his parents who were presents and his wife.

We support democratic reform across the middle-east. Hammas must recognize Israel. Strong statement about their recent elections.

Strong words about Iran which is held by a clerical elite. They defy the world and the nations must act to stop their attaining nuclear weapons. In the end we want friendship with a free and democratic Iran.

We must be vigilant at home because there are those who have not lost their desire to harm us here at home as well as abroad. We need the Patriot Act. We will not wait and sit back until we are hit again. We need surveillance of international calls. If someone here is talking to terrorists we want to know about it.

Let us have bi-partisan support to lead the world to freedom.

The economy is healthy. We saw the creation of 4.6 million new jobs. More than several other western culture nations combined.

Immigration and the need for many of the foreign workers also made the hot topic list.

Tax Relief which left money in the hands of the citizens has led to four years of economic growth. It is set to expire and needs to be made permanent. All the liberals sat on their backsides. Figures. They want our money and bigger government.

Moving to cut the deficit in half by 2009. McCain got mention on the earmark reform and the line item veto.

Entitlements will be nearly 60% of the federal budget. You didn’t act last year. The democrats stood up (at least part of them) and cheered. Rude and irresponsible as far as I could see.

Open markets needed for what we make and grow. With level playing fields no one can out produce America. Immigration laws are also needed. Secure borders was mentioned again. Stronger border protection. Guest worker program needs to be humane.

Affordable health care. Provide care for the poor and elderly and also control the high cost of medical care. Included this is the need for medical liability reform this year.
America is addicted to oil from unstable areas of the world. The need for the advance research initiative. He mentioned recent developments yet unrevealed. Ethanol was also on the board. Replace 75% of middle east oil by 2025.

Math and Science is a must in schooling. Tax credits and research being done in the private and public sectors. Advanced math and science teachers for the classrooms.

We strive to be a compassionate and hopeful nation. Crime rates down to the levels of the 1970’s, drug use down and fewer abortions compared to the last 3 decades. A life of personal responsibility is a fulfilling life.

Deep concerns about ethical conduct and activist courts redefining marriage. Justices who don’t legislate from the bench but are servants of the law.

Human life is a gift from our creator and should not be put up for sale.

Officials should uphold the public trust.

Youth initiative led by Laura Bush.

A great deal of money went to the Gulf Coast and the work continues to build a hopeful future.

AIDS research and the need to fight it. Provide new funding for AIDS medicine. Working with faith based groups to help in the fight.

End of the speech at 10:03 pm.

Endorsing John Willamowski - 3rd District Appeals Court

The primary race for the 3rd District Court of Appeals is coming up. Court races don’t garner much attention in the media unless a press conference is called. So I want to throw my endorsement in for State Rep. John Willamowski who I am proud to call a friend.

Willamowski is a life long Republican and an attorney for 20 years. He has trial experience, chairman of the Judiciary and Correctional Institution Inspection committees in the Ohio House. His other qualifications are listed on his website.

Let me say that Willamowski has proven himself as competent, capable, fair-minded and conservative in his terms in the Ohio House. He has helped write many of the laws that he will have to deal with at the Appeals Court level. Willamowski is uniquely qualified for the position. He is also a part of a unique group of very capable conservatives serving Ohio including State Sen. Jordan (12th Senate District) and State Rep. Keith Faber (77th House District).

People across Northwest Ohio who will be affected by this race would do well to pay attention to his record and elect him as the qualified conservative to the bench.

Living with someone else’s face

You might think that the title implies a two faced person. But what does one do when they don’t have their own face. Simple. Have surgeons take a face from someone else and attach to you.

Just last month the lady who underwent the very first face surgery nearly rejected it. However, a healthy dose of steroids seems to have done the trick.

Despite the large scars the situation is much better than it was previously with no face. Despite the risks she seems anxious to get on with life. In the back of my mind I hate to think of what happens if her body rejects the new face down the road. It will be one case of losing face I hope she never encounters.

By the way, every wonder where the face came from? I did and discovered that the face is from a person who hung themselves. Hope she has more fortitude than the previous owner.

Gay Blogger Extorts Black Bigots?

(HT Expose the Left) If you are against being homosexual you are homophobic. If you are homosexual but in the ‘closet’ then others tread the perilous passage as pioneers for those not brave enough.

The frontier has been well settled and it appears that now is the time to force out the hidden homosexuals. You might call it extortion to threaten a Senator with blackmail. On the other hand, if Michael Rogers is correct then you have a Senator living a lie. However, that never bothered the liberals when President Bill Clinton carried out torrid affairs in office (literally).

So much for it being just about sex or a private matter. Don’t ask - Don’t tell has been replaced with the Tell or Else policy by the gay left. It won’t be view as criminal but rather a compassionate attempt to free the senator from his inner conflict. They must feel the senator will realize who he really is and be freed from the Republican anti-black bias the Washington Post has exposed.

???Obviously, such research does not speak at all to the question of the prejudice level of the president,??? said Banaji, ???but it does show that George W. Bush is appealing as a leader to those Americans who harbor greater anti-black prejudice.???

If the letter is in fact true then one senator is probably getting nervous. There is only one spin to this that might gain support from among the non-conservative pioneers. To come clean. If his wife is willing he may come out as bi-sexual and then the liberal left will love him. Well, only if he also changes his politics. Which brings us to realize that this isn’t anything more than an attempt by the left to destroy the Republican party as liars, bigots and homophobic hypocrites.

Cindy Sheehan Beds Hugo Chavez

January 30, 2006 by Conservative Culture

Leftist President Hugo Chavez warmly embraces fellow leftist Cindy Sheehan on a goodwill tour. Representing her fellow liberals back in America she sent their greetings with a little lip-lock to show their appreciation for a real president.

This love affair is simply a bedding down with the ‘compassionate’ President who is only accused of electoral fraud, human rights violations and political repression. It appears that Chavez’s political leadership of the Bolivarian Revolution is the ideal that Sheehan wants to draw upon prior to her run for the U.S. Senate.

If Chavez is the ideal for the political leadership the liberals want then we have seen the real love they have. If America puts these liberals in power then we all will come to rue the day.

The amazing thing is that Chavez uses ‘religion’ to control the masses. Wikipedia puts it this way.

Ch√?vez also asserted in his September 2005 speech at the Bronx’s Latino Pastoral Action Center that Jesus of Nazareth was a radical activist who purportedly emphasized and sought redistributive social justice and democratic socialism–Ch√?vez has stated that such emphases also characterizes Bolivarianism.

Everything the liberals say they don’t like about America they love the perversions of in South American country. Go figure.

Army Reserves Cut - Sends money elsewhere

January 30, 2006 by Conservative Culture

(HT The Officer’s Club) Two headlines from the Washington Post just seem odd.

Budget to Call for Cuts In Military Reserves
Pentagon Can Now Fund Foreign Militaries

According to the new budget it appears that Army Reserve numbers would drop.

Under the plan, the authorized troop strength of the Army Reserve would drop from 205,000 — the current number of slots it is allowed — to 188,000, the actual number of soldiers it had at the end of 2005.

In the meantime an additional $200 million of the Pentagon budget will be spend to aid foreign militiaries.

Congress has granted unusual authority for the Pentagon to spend as much as $200 million of its own budget to aid foreign militaries, a break with the traditional practice of channeling foreign military assistance through the State Department

“The Officer’s Club” believes he knows the answer (though he didn’t mention it). I also believe there is an explanation, but it is an odd combination of headlines. If anyone knows the answer please post your comments or track-back.
