Lauer calls Harry Reid “Ultra Liberal” - Not

Posted by Conservative Culture On January - 10 - 2006

Matt Lauer commenting on Alito to GOP Sen. Fred Thompson burst out with:

Let’s face it. He is an ultra-conservative and his track record on the bench [speaking over Thompson]. . . he goes to the right on key issues.”

I continue to wait for the day when Ted Kennedy and Harry Reid receive the MSM title of “Ultra Liberal”. Thankfully I won’t be holding my breath and I suggest that you don’t either.

All Things Not Considered - NPR

Posted by Conservative Culture On January - 10 - 2006

On occasion I will turn the radio to hear NPR news just to hear what might be said. On Monday Jody Williams (International Campaign to Ban Land-mines) spoke on “This I Believe.”

In the broadcast she made several statements that were true but not really give due consideration.

I believe in both my right and my responsibility to work to create a world that doesn’t glorify violence and war, but where we seek different solutions to our common problems.

Working together toward solutions to our common problems. Nice words. Great if all parties sharing the common problem want to solve the problem. She seems to live in a world where everyone wants to ‘negotiate’ an equitable solution. The old ‘give and take’ or ‘win-win’ method of solving difficult problems. What happens when you have a party who isn’t concerned about the other party.

A man comes up and points a weapon in your back. He demands your valuables. Now what is your solution? Lets try to understand why this thug is threatening another person’s life. This poor unfortunate soul needs the valuables so you give them over expecting him to go on his way. The thug then beats you over the head, kills or rapes you. So much for working together here.

Iran wants nuclear weapons. They know from Saddam that there is lots of room to ignore, fake negotiations and then do what they want to do regardless. You have several choices: Ignore it and maybe it will go away; Give in and realize that their having nukes is a solution to your common problem; Take forceful means if negotiation don’t produce ‘equitable’ solutions.

I believe the truth is told in the actions we take.

The truth is told in the actions. When Saddam thumbed his nose at the no-fly zone he told the truth about his intent. When he thwarted inspections and sought to deceive he told the truth about his intent. The liberals called it aggressive action by the United States when they went to war. The terrorists destroy the Twin Towers they told the truth about their interest in mutual goals. The United States responds and the liberals call terrorists freedom fighters and the our forces occupiers.

Sure, she was talking about land-mines but she reveals more than that about the liberal mindset.

Church Leaves UCC over Marriage

Posted by Conservative Culture On January - 10 - 2006

This isn’t the first group but could be part of a growing trend. The United Church of Christ, arguably the staunchest liberal church in America, has endorsed same-sex-marriage.

Endorsement wasn’t enough. They asked their churches to fight any constitutional amendments that would limit marriage according to gender. This got under the skin of the more conservative congregation in Suffolk, VA.

The action was in response to the vote by the UCC’s General Synod, a biennial meeting of delegates from member churches, affirming “equal marriage rights for couples regardless of gender.”

Though the synod doesn’t dictate policy to its member churches, the congregations are stuck with the liberal image many say don’t represent who they are as Christians. The other issue that set some off was the opposition to the war in Iraq.

The synod’s action made the church the first major Christian denomination to endorse gay marriage. The United Church of Christ already was the only major Protestant denomination to allow ordination for gays and lesbians.

Other more liberal denominations are not all that far behind the UCC. For some it may be just a matter of a few years. Only time will tell.

Anglican & Episcopal Begin to Fray At Edges

Posted by Conservative Culture On January - 10 - 2006

Gay clergy ordinations and marriage will take their toll which is just starting to mount. Don’t expect it to lose momentum either. The ’second’ wave of Episcopal churches are looking elsewhere because of these very issues.

A “good-sized second wave” of at least eight conservative Northeast Florida churches will be following six that have already quit the Episcopal Diocese of Florida to realign themselves with Worldwide Anglican Communion, two local priests said Friday.

As the Episcopal Church heads toward their convention things will certainly heat up.

A new darkness is descending over the Episcopal Church as it heads towards General Convention later this year.

The pleas for unity have for many years been based solely on exclusivity and not upon the truth they are responsible to stand for. This is becoming increasingly painful for more congregations and leaders who still hold to more biblical positions on such issues.

In England a leading member of the Anglican Church exchanged vows with his ‘longtime’ partner.

(London) A leading member of the Anglican Church has exchanged vows with his longtime partner with his bishop and the dean of his cathedral in attendance - a move likely to further infuriate conservatives in the worldwide church….

A spokesperson for the diocese defended the presence of the two.

“This was a civil partnership ceremony and there was no religious involvement,” he said. “It followed exactly the legal requirements and the guidelines of the Church of England.”

The only statement that was correct in all of this was one who said there was ‘no religious involvement.’ There hasn’t been any ‘religious’ involvement by such leaders for sometime. At least this much is becoming obvious to numerous congregations.
