Northwest Ohio Races

Posted by Conservative Culture On January - 6 - 2006

Primary time is coming. The races are heating up. With all the candidates out there I thought I might list a few involved in the races affecting this part of the woods.

Governor:
Ken Blackwell, Jim Petro and Betty Montgomery

Sure, it is a three way race but from a conservative perspective there really are only two in the race. Betty on all issues is too “not conservative enough” on life or gun issues. Unless the front two do something to turn off the state voters Betty won’t make it. But then of course Gov. Bob Taft isn’t any where near a conservative and he made it. Ahh… another reason someone too close to Taft’s position won’t make it.

U.S. Congressman - 4th District
Jim Jordan, Mike Gilb and Ed Olson.

There were three and now two. Both Jim and Mike are great guys. Yet from a conservative perspective Jim Jordan, the High School championship wrestler, pins Mike down for the count. Mike may be more conservative than others but Jim Jordan is time tested and would represent the area well.

3rd Ohio District Court of Appeals
John Willamowski and Vern Preston

John has served his district with great understanding and wisdom. He is a conservative and would serve well in the Appeals Court because he has worked on many of the laws that will come under review in the Appeals Court.

???This job requires experience, scholarship and common sense,??? Willamowski said at the Allen County Courthouse. ???I possess all three. I???ll interpret law, not make it.???

Vern will attempt to tout his court experience as both magistrate and appellate judge. In the end Willamowski is a real conservative who understands the role of the court and judicial restraint.

Ohio Attorney General
Tim Grendell and Ron O’Brien.

Only know Tim Grendell who currently serves in the Ohio Senate. The rest of any potential names therefore eludes me. Grendell is a top notch conservative on all counts. A small government, lower tax, pro-family, pro-gun and pro-life combined with an ability to do the job should make him a a great pick for the Ohio Attorney’s spot.

Ohio 4th House District
Matt Huffman and Ben Rose.

Nice guys both of them. No need to choose between the two as Rose bowed out of the race in support of Huffman. Huffman is also a small government and low tax guy as well. He is looking to fill in the spot being vacated by John Willamowski due to term limits.

There are many more races cooking in Northwest Ohio. If you would like to weigh in and gather names here for the races… please do. I will make more extensive race list for our area.
