Taft - New Goals for New Taxes

Posted by Conservative Culture On January - 27 - 2006

Big Goals for the outgoing Taft. His lofty goals for ‘improving education’ are probably his last gasps of leaving a legacy. But in reality his efforts only reinforce his current legacy and don’t remake it.

The governor may have written a check he cannot cash and offered a plan that could bar thousands from the state’s four-year colleges.

Ohio might well consider the costs his administration have brought to higher education.

An issue Taft did not address in his speech is Ohio’s high cost of higher education.

Since he became governor in 1999, the state has gone from seventh-least affordable for a college education to second-least affordable when tuition is compared with average family incomes, according to the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems.

Could it be that Taft suddenly knows how to improve the effectiveness of schools when he doesn’t know about conservative Republican principles? If we look at Taft’s record we know that we can only expect less for more money. Hasn’t Taft raised our taxes high enough and chased off a competitive business climate in Ohio. Something that we hope to see corrected by the election of a real conservative Republican and not a conservative liberal.
