Gilb Drops From 4th Congressional Race

Posted by Conservative Culture On February - 11 - 2006

Mike Gilb was cautious to get into the race but then decided to enter the race for Mike Oxley’s seat. With so many in the race and the amount of many he would have to raise it may be a wise move that Gilb drops out of the race. Doing so is a good move in part because it was unlikely he would beat Jordan in the race.

Looks at this point that he will simply fill out the rest of his term in the Ohio House and hasn’t filed to run in another race at this time.

A Weasel is running for office - really!

Posted by Conservative Culture On February - 11 - 2006

There are some names best left behind on the campaign trail. There could be some real name calling and it couldn’t be called mudslinging either. Statements like, my opponent is a Weasel likely won’t be heard. But the constituents might hesitate about wanting the pride of having such a name sake as their next congressional representative.

To make matters worse is that this new Republican candidate enters the field just when the high calling of ethics requires candidates to be above board and avoid the appearance of impropriety. That will be hard with the name.

Seems as if Findley won’t be supporting State Sen. Jim Jordan for the 4th Congressional District. Instead they will be fielding Charles ???Chuck??? Weasel to run for the seat vacated by Mike Oxley. So you might ask what platform will ‘Chuck’ be running on?

Weasel also wants to see the American military begin an orderly withdrawal from Iraq, to close all nonvital military bases, and to end foreign financial aid except in emergency humanitarian relief.

Jim Jordan should be able grapple with his opponent and narrow the field by primary time. In the meantime the new addition will help see the issues raised and talked about. Issues which Jim Jordan will represent the conservative position very well.

Ohio Auditor’s Race In Question

Posted by Conservative Culture On February - 11 - 2006

Mary Taylor has been ready for sometime to run for the Ohio State Auditor’s position. Now an uncertainty hangs over her petitions. A feeling left by a question over whether she needed to file Form 14 or not.

The law states that the form must be filed by “any person who will receive compensation, or any person who compensates a person for supervising, managing, or otherwise organizing any effort to obtain signatures for a statewide election petition.”

Apparently others could still file but if Mary Taylor needs to, she won’t be able to refile new petitions. GOP chairmen Bob Bennett’s interpretation of the law is that it only applies to circulators who are paid to ‘only’ pass petitions. A safe guard put into place because of other groups having paid workers to swarm Ohio just to circulate petitions.

Blackwell’s spokesman said that the office agrees with Bennett’s view that it is required only of campaigns that hire professional circulators and does not cover paid staff who may oversee circulation but also have other functions in the campaign.

Lets hope so or the race may be over for Taylor before it really began.

Knight Rider Explores Christian & Muslim Outrage

Posted by Conservative Culture On February - 11 - 2006

Knight Rider Matt Stearns wrote an article called “Evangelical Christians express little sympathy for Muslims’ outrage.” It is always interesting reading when MSM attempt to understand Christians and fascinating when comparing them to Muslims.

Only a cursory understanding of what it means to be a Christian would be left wondering why Muslims haven’t found more of an ally in the ‘cartoon’ row which depicted the Muslim religion and prophet in a manner which sparked violent rage across the world. They only see that Christians have been mocked and their belief in Jesus Christ denigrated. The response has be dramatically different than the Muslim violence seen recently.

No Christian leader ever espoused violence to retaliate against “Piss Christ,” the controversial 1989 artwork - a photograph of a crucifix submerged in urine - by Andres Serrano, even though that riled many Christians, noted Gary Bauer, president of American Values and a longtime leader among religious conservatives.

Christians do understand what it is to be upset to be misrepresented and even made fun of. Yet Gary Bauer of the American Values stated it well in the article.

Bauer said. “But … how can (the cartoons) engender a greater emotional reaction than the daily bombings and attacks by groups claiming to do them in the name of Allah? “It doesn’t look like a call for respect,” Bauer concluded of the Muslims’ protests. “It looks like a call for submission.”

The radical Muslims are not looking for plurality but a homogeneous culture that sees and views the world as they do. Some would level the same charge against Christians. However, the changes Christians make are through the same system every group has, in the arena of ideas. The main difference of approach the radical Muslims take is that they have brought into the arena of ideas a sword.
