Its a nightmare for Bennett. In what he hoped would b a one man primary race has now turned into a heated 2 man contest. Unable to save the war chests of over 3.5 million dollars for a race against democrats wonder boy Strickland’s 2.1 million in the general election.
Yet, in a Bennett scenario there might have been the more central candidate Petro in the general race. If Blackwell had blinked in the last days, as Montgomery did, then it might have occurred. What would be the result today. Only that the Republican candidate for governor today would have headlines of another Republican scandal in Ohio’s highest office.
The story came out Wednesday that the FBI will probe Petro contract charges. Accused by Akron lawyers Jack Morrison and Ray Weber, that Petro punished them in 2002 for not supporting his campaign.
Attorney Ray Weber said Tuesday that he spoke with the FBI last week. Jack Morrison, who says Petro told him that his firm would lose state legal contracts because of donations to another candidate in the 2002 race, said he is to speak with Akron FBI officials today.
I am sure this will be sorted out but what a mess it will make over the next several months as money is spent to counter the bad public relations this may cause.

Petro is done. But I think the money will come through in the end for the GOP.
