Most of the time humor is considered disarming. Something which can relax a tense moment and bridge relationships. Other times it humanizes and disarms the psycological power an enemy has over people. In either case you either like or don’t like the type of humor. Never would one consider killing the messenger of what many others are already thinking.
Radical Muslims on the other hand like to be disarming without the usual charming fashion of other cultures. In fact the price for killing a cartoonist (the ultimate in being disarmed) is now at $1 million dollars which was issued by a Pakistani cleric.
When will the threats and killing stop? When the critics are silenced. Either by conversion or by fear.
Atlas Shrugs has some more cartoons dealing with issue. If you are interested in the million dollars I imagine you will need a weapon. Apparently the jihadists never heard that the ‘pen is mightier than the sword.’ Perhaps that is why explosives are often the weapon of choice.
President Clinton says the publishing of the cartoons was a mistake and he ought to know about personal mistakes. On the other hand he doesn’t see relinquishing the expression of ideas to militants as being a mistake. Frankly, I don’t think he is right this time either but thanks for the input anyway.
