Ohio’s 4th Congressional Race

Posted by Conservative Culture On February - 28 - 2006

The count is now final precluding candidates that might drop from the race prior to the primary. Here is the list of candidates wishing to ascend to the 4th Congressional seat to replace Congressman Mike Oxley.

The Republican primary field for the 4th Congressional District race was finally set as a six-man race. The candidates are Ohio Sen. Jim Jordan, R-Urbana; Kevin Nestor, president of the Mansfield/Richland Area Chamber of Commerce; Findlay businessman Frank Guglielmi; Findlay businessman James Stahl; Findlay attorney Charles Weasel; and Iraqi war veteran Nathan Martin of Mansfield.

Democrats avoided a contested primary for the seat, as Findlay attorney John Kostyo did not file his petition for the seat now held by Rep. Michael Oxley, R-Findlay, leaving Lima attorney Rick Siferd as the lone Democrat. Kostyo said he will support Siferd???s campaign.

Ohio Sen. Jim Jordan is the front runner and my pick as the most capable and proven candidate for the position. It certainly doesn’t hurt that he has faithfully represented his area and that he also has held true to his word in all occasions. His conservative values are another reason I have endorse State Sen. Jim Jordan.

Another player has arrived on the scene that may bear some scrutiny. Little information is out there about Frank Guglielmi. It appears that someone in the family owns Sky Bank. The family appears to be financially well off to finance the campaign, before he entered the race he was quoted in the Courier

Guglielmi said Friday that “I do think I could win or I wouldn’t be exploring it.” He said a final decision about his candidacy would be made fairly soon.

It appears that he intends to put up a fight to knock out State Sen. Jim Jordan. The more interesting part of the Findlay connection continues to grow. Guglielmi’s campaign manager is BJ Preston. Who cares, right? Follow the trail. BJ Preston is the son of Vern Preston who is running against Allen County conservative candidate State Rep. John Willamowski who is running for the 3rd District Court of Appeals. If that were not odd enough the follow this. Mike Oxley’s assistant (from Allen County) introduced Vern Preston in Allen County. Mike Oxley’s assistant is also running against the current Allen County Chairman Keith Cheney who has helped to run successful sweeps in the 2000 and 2004 election years.

Sure, just politics at is usual. But odd that these things pull together just when Mike is heading toward the retirement beaches. Political favors? Maybe. Interesting? Definitely. Still, let the real conservatives with proven records in office be put into these new offices. It has been a benefit to those who know both Willamowski and Jordan know what a benefit they will be to Ohio in the offices they now seek.
