Where have all the conservatives gone? - Ohio

Posted by Conservative Culture On March - 21 - 2006

The great Red State of Ohio has garnered national attention over the last several Presidential elections. In crucial moments it has tipped the balance away from liberal to conservative politics. At least that has been the scenario painted in the national news. With Republican control in Ohio one might have expected conservative causes to garner not only attention but action. Sadly that hasn’t always been the case.

Note the recent Taft snubs conservatives on gun rights. The Open Audits Bill (now in the Senate) is being targeted by Taft for veto if the Amendment State Rep. Willamowski help get attached which allows for privacy of carry conceal card holders. Instead of being supportive to protect this vital privacy issue, you have the head Republican in office threatening it like a good democrat. Very disappointing. Ohio House Speaker Husted (R-Kettering) voted against the amendment because of Taft. Yet contrast this to the vote taken on the Amendment.

Thirteen Democrats, including Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern, voted to restrict access to gun permits, helping the GOP-sponsored amendment to pass 51-43.

There are 13 Democrats with more guts than the governor.

In other news it appears that Moms for Ohio isn’t really pro-life either. They endorsed pro-choice Montgomery over Grendell who are facing off in the primary for Attorney General. Slightly confusing messages being sent as that issue is really a prerequisite for being a mother. It appears that as conservative as Ohio is, there is still difficulty getting ‘true believers’ in conservative culture into the top offices. Thankfully there are still some key players willing to lay it on the line for such important issues.

America’s FATWA On Marriage

Posted by Conservative Culture On March - 21 - 2006

The idea of a marriage being one man and one women has a target on it. The usual group of suspects have been chipping away, gaining ground on building a new ‘awareness’ of marriage expansion that is going on all around the world and her in the United States. Then Wizbang - there was just one more player in the picture. It was one I had not given much thought to but has tremendous clout due to fear of ‘offending’ their beliefs.

Who is this new marriage expanding power? Muslim Polygamy in American. Debbie Schlussel in her article points out that while Mormons (who mostly don’t practice polygamy) are subject to ridicule, it is absent when it comes to Muslims.

The fact is there are Muslim men with multiple wives living everywhere in America. But unlike the Mormons–most of whom don’t practice polygamy anymore–Muslims with multiple wives aren’t subject to ridicule, like HBO shows or Jay Leno jokes. And they aren’t prosecuted, like Mormon Tom Green was.

Another blog raises two questions about liberals support for polygamy. Though a majority of Americans oppose polygamy this was the same situation toward same sex marriage 20 years ago.

Schlussel also makes this statement about the government’s approach to this issue, which is disturbing piece of information.

While our government recognizes these marriages for Muslims, it enforces polygamy laws against everyone else. In Dearborn, Michigan–Islamic America’ nucleus–statutory rape cases have been dismissed on the grounds that there was a marriage (of a 14-year-old girl! in one case) in the eyes of the mosque.

Wizbang sums it up this way.

So, American law has become subjugated to Islamic law. And according to law enforcement, the free practice of Islam includes the statutory rape of little girls. I don’t like where this is going.

Either people come here to become a part of American laws and way of life or we shall become a part of theirs. This never was a question before. It is now.
