Blackwell - Petro Ads
March 8, 2006 |
Having met both candidates they have been both very personable and a pleasure to talk to. That aside, in the next two months we have to decide who will best lead Ohio as Governor. Thanks to NixGuy you can view the latest ads by both sides and compare the content and tenor of the ads.
The content of Petro’s ad includes the quote from Ohio Republican Party Chairman.
The race for Governor should be a contest of ideas, not smear tactics…
With that in mind the entire ad doesn’t focus on any ideas but portrays Blackwell as mean, sinister and a general danger to all mankind. You might have noticed that he uses liberal papers for quotes. Hmmmm. Not a move I would have made. It almost makes Blackwell look… like a boogie man. No slur intended, nor should any be taken. Point being is Blackwell is made to look sinister like in some horror flick. That aside the ad was creative and well done.
Now watch the Blackwell ad. Light shines in his ad. Some might characterize it as smear but I beg to differ. It clearly compares specific issues between the candidates. The issue for many boils down to this: “Will we have 4 more years of Taft Rhino politics?” Petro, no doubt is more conservative than Betty, but how much different from Taft will Petro really be.
One attack against Blackwell had to do with his budget increasing. The implication was that Blackwell was socially conservative but fiscally liberal. One legislator who was a part of the changes let me know that additional responsibilities were added to Blackwell’s office. Hence the increase was a part of the legislative process and not Blackwell’s simply growing his office. This is the kind of information I find helpful.
If Petro’s campaign will not have a staffer admit he lied was one strike in my book. The negative ad without ideas is strike two. A lot can still happen but at least we are now hearing more and that will be good for Ohio. Just hope people are watching and paying attention to this important race.
