State Rep. John Willamowski (and candidate for 3rd District Court of Appeals) had promised to help strengthen gun owners rights. This time it was to protect their identity to the MSM.

The Ohio House voted Wednesday to allow restrictions on reporters’ access to the names of people holding concealed weapon permits, a last-minute addition to a bill meant to improve access to open records.

Of course the media sees this as an attack against them and not a move to protect the ‘rights of privacy’ for legitimate gun owners who have carry and conceal permit. So typical of their warped sense of reality.

Current law shields the names of people allowed to carry hidden guns. An exception allows reporters to ask the sheriff of each county for the list of permit holders. The measure approved Wednesday allows permit holders to direct sheriffs not to release their names.

Rep. John Willamowski, a Republican from Lima, said the media had abused its discretion by routinely publishing entire lists of permit holders’ names.

It has been a change sorely needed to protect permit owners from being exposed. What do they think carry and conceal means? Not wanting the creeps to know who they can attack safely. Keep them guessing is the best policy. It is tied to a bill Taft really wants. If he is concerned about justice he will sign this.

So the MSM thinks it’s their civic duty to publish full lists of gun owners so criminals can know who to terrorize — everyone else.

I don’t see where they should have any more rights than we do to find those things out, and if I’m correct, we don’t have any.

HB 9 PUBLIC RECORDS LAW (Oelslager) - To revise the Public Records Law. 93-1 (Wagner) Amended (earlier REPORTED-AMENDED)

This appears to be the bill it has been attached to. It is on the way to the Senate.

HB 9 was amended to prohibit the media access to CCW list. 51 Members of the Ohio House of Representatives had the courage to stand up to Gov Taft and the self serving media. 13 of those who voted for the amendement were D’s while only 38 R’s voted to protect our gun right.
