Another Shameless Plug For Jim Jordan

Ok. Blogs can be biased. That is because people have a bias one way or another. In this case I can’t help myself. I like several of the candidates. But I like Sen. Jordan and what he stands for. Others can take the same stand but no one does it better than Jordan. So I see Club for Growth is behind him. Great.

In 19 days, the next congressman from Ohio’s 4th congressional district will likely be chosen. This is your last chance to help an outstanding candidate win.

As a state senator in the Ohio Legislature, Jim Jordan led the fight against two of the largest tax hikes in state history. When RINO Governor Bob Taft proposed a huge tax hike as part of the 2003 budget, not only did Jordan oppose it, but he also went through the laborious and complex task of proposing an alternative budget, one that didn’t raise taxes and was much, much leaner.

Also, when he refused to support a tax hike, the political retribution was fierce — he lost a state facility in his district. But Jordan remained an outspoken fiscal conservative who has had the courage to speak out against both higher taxes and wasteful spending.

However, Jim’s wealthy opponent just poured more than $600,000 of his own money into the race so please make a contribution to Jordan’s campaign so he can carry his pro-growth and limited government message to the voters during the final and critical days of the campaign. This is an open, and very safe Republican seat, so the winner of the May 2 primary is virtually assured of winning in November.

Since it’s becoming the custom to post on every 4th Congressional District seat post, let me chip in my two cents here and say that Jordan is, beyond the shadow of a doubt, the candidate that all real conservatives will want to support.

To characterize Jordan the conservative candidate in this six-way race is, to say the least, misleading.

Jordan’s “what’s good for the family” attitudes don’t have much value when the man in the family doesn’t have a job.

Frank Guglielmi has a proven record of involvement in bringing many jobs to Hancock County. His participation in a trademission to Germany with Governor Taft just brought 70 jobs to the Zanesville area.

If you were to head a trademission, would you not want Frank Guglielmi as the first choice of the seven candidates to go on that trademission with you, especially when he pays his own way?

Also, of all the candidates, Guglielmi is affected most by high taxes. Would we conservatives not prefer such a candidate who has earned his money in the private sector over a candidate who has never held a private sector job and is a lawyer besides that? Don’t we conservatives blame most of our problems on the lawyers we already have in Washington? I just don’t understand why a conservative group wants to send more.

Did not our founding fathers look at a Frank Guglielmi, someone who proved himself in the private sector first, as an ideal candidate for Congress?

Isn’t it time you conservative bloggers got behind the real conservative candidate?

More of Frank is conservative. Ok. I am glad he is good at the job creation though I only know he married money. It is apparent that he is a ‘former’ Sunday School teacher and a ‘former’ banker. He is also a ‘current’ millionaire. What we need is more men with lots of money and out of touch with the rest of us.

But strictly on the issues… prove to me that he is conservative. The quotes we have uncovered show more a non-conservative than a conservative. We are not sending him to create jobs either… that is not the role of government. Second he is too close to Taft type republicans. Let him come out for repeal of the CAT, his stand on the border and the limitation of government expansion.

Here’s one I would like to hear from Mr. G. Would he fight for the repeal of DC’s handgun laws?

He hasn’t proven himself conservative. A conservative doesn’t take polls to find out where he stands on the issues. But I belabor the point.

I do appreciate the comments. But the ‘anti-lawyer’ move doesn’t overcome ‘anti-sentiment’. What I want is a proven fighter for basic conservative values. I remain unconvinced that anyone would be better than Jordan.

The assertion that we should elect Guglelmi because he is the richest man in the race (and thus the most taxed) is nothing short of silly. By that reasoning, we should have elected John Kerry in 2004.

Jim Jordan has held private sector jobs. After being one of the most successful wrestlers in the state, he was hired as an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State University. He was successful there, and loves the sport of wrestling, but decided that it was more important for the future of our nation that we win this culture war.

There is something far more fundamental than a job. If you aren’t born, you can’t ever have a job. The right to life is the most fundamental human right.

Guglielmi himself has said that family values are the most important issue for us (the 4th District voters) today. Of course, he also said that he reached this conclusion when his polling data informed him it was the most popular issue in the district, but that’s beside the point. The general conclusion is true, and, granting this assertion, Jordan is the candidate we want on our side.

I am glad to see that Guglielmi is good at creating jobs. But the Federal Government has no Constitutional authority, and, frankly, no business in the job creation market. The bureaucracy is big enough as it is, and the federal government has no Constitutional authority to hand out money or favors to selected competitors in the private sector.

Guglielmi might be good at creating jobs. But if we want him to create jobs, let’s keep Guglielmi here in the district’s private sector to create jobs. And let’s vote to send Jordan to Congress to pass good, conservative laws.

Notice how everyone says they are for “education”. Currently we spend about $10,000 per kid in public education and the schools are the same or worse. I do not want to hear a candidate for any office talk about how he is for “education” unless he is willing to talk about things other than more money for education. How about getting rid of bad teachers and paying good teachers more? How about getting rid of tenure? There is no tenure in the private sector. How about giving vouchers to every student to use at the school of their choice. How about allowing high school kids greater access to local colleges? All these things will improve education. Any politician who will not talk about these things is wasting our time.

Sounds like we have the right candidate. We have home schooled and our kids now attend public school. We have talked with him on this topic and these are the topics we have talked about with him. Jordan has addressed these issues. I would suggest talking to more legislators and those at the top of the education food chain.

    Jim Jordan supports school choice.

As a newbie to political activism (but ardent voter), I must say that this campaign has soured my stomach with the attacks that Jim Jordan is putting on the air-waves. His latest mud-slinging is not only misleading, but purposely vague. It is a shameful display that makes him look desperate at best.

Of course Taft went to Europe, he’s governor of the state (no matter what we think of him now). Our own Lydia Reed went abroad for similar political hob-knobbing with our sister city in Japan… as did many business leaders. Guglielmi is a business man and went to Europe as such.

I hope more voters do their homework and see the ads for what they are. I was actually thinking of voting for him till now and I’ve told others my oppinions.

  10. Conservative Culture on Sun, 30th Apr 2006 9:19 pm

No mention of Mr. G’s negative ads. No surprise. Taft travels no surprise. But did Mr. G. go on record against a less than 16% popular governor who raised taxes on business. He brought jobs but could have created more with lower taxes.

  11. Daniel J. Mount on Mon, 1st May 2006 9:36 am

Guglielmi started the mudslinging. He launched negative ads (with the shameless “deadbeat dads” claim”) and Jordan only launched a response. I’m not saying that Jordan should have done it, but Guglielmi is unquestionably a friend of Taft (though there are better examples than the trade missions) and supports Taft’s tax-raising policies.
