Belgium’s murder of a 17 year old at a busy Brussels Central Station was shocking. Two youths, ages 16 and 18, were seen by security cameras but haven’t been caught. One week later those pictures were released. There has been outrage at the indifference of those standing around and not acting while it happened.
Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt and Cardinal Godfried Danneels addressed the indignation, but gave it a spin of their own. How was it possible for such an atrocity to take place in a crowd with no-one interfering, they asked. Both Verhofstadt and Danneels said that Joe was a victim of ???indifference in Belgian society.???
Belien points out that it isn’t indifference but the fact that there is no justice. The source of the crimes and killings are not dealt with.
Belgian citizens realize, however, that the murder has nothing to do with ???indifference in Belgian society,??? but everything with a group of North African youths terrorizing Brussels and the ???indifference??? of the authorities to eradicate this scourge.
Why doesn’t anyone do or say something? It’s a similar problem that has arisen in the United States. Racism. On Belgium Senator says…
???you will sooner get punished for riding a bike without the lights on than for stealing a bike. [...] Policemen look the other way in order to avoid being accused of racism ??? because nothing is more detrimental to their career ??? and also to signal that they hold no prejudices. They behave in exactly the opposite way when they suspect decent citizens of some misdemeanour.???
The MSC’s (mainstream churches) are not much help in addressing the real problem either.
The cardinal did not condemn the culprits. He made no reference whatever to the policy makers who allowed things to get so bad. Instead, he launched an attack on the whole of society
The cardinal wants society to do something? Then find the law abiding citizens and allow them to carry and conceal a weapon. If law enforcement won’t protect its people then what will society do except sit there and play the victim. Then they can go to church and be blamed for not doing anything and not address the heart of the problem. This makes no sense at all.
In Germany the victim of a cannibalistic murder was blamed by an ‘expert’. This ‘expert’ said the murderer was only fulfilling her wish to be consumed.
Apparently the Belgium people haven’t learned the lesson, because they keep putting people into office who promote this nonsensical approach. The MSC’s also keep putting the same type of people in their leadership. But don’t feel like I am beating on the Belgium’s. It is in Germany and the United States as well. In the meantime those who fight for a conservative approach to these topics should continue to speak up.
