2008: Mike Huckabee for President?

Romney is unacceptable. McCain is unacceptable. Allen is unacceptable. Who, then, should conservatives support?

Sam Brownback is a viable alternative, should he run. If he does not, who can conservatives choose?

Mike Huckabee is a viable alternative. He is considering running for President. He opposes abortion except when the life of the mother is endangered. All indications are that he makes the issue a priority. He supports marriage and opposes gay civil unions.

Like any Presidential candidate, he has a few political skeletons in his closet. He has irritated Club for Growth conservatives by signing a minimum wage increase bill. Yet he looks like superb alternative to Romney, Allen, and McCain.

Mike Huckabee hails from Hope, Arkansas. He is chairman of the national association of Governors. He has been a successful and popular Governor of the state. He is viewed as a promising dark-horse candidate for the Presidency.

And as a Washington outsider who gets the social conservative base fired up, he appears to be our best option to defeat Hillary in 2008 and undo the liberal Clinton legacy of the ’90s.

His campaign will be one to watch.

That Club for Growth list of Huckabee tax increases was way too long for me!

I can understand the views of fiscal conservatives. However, I am unashamedly a social conservative.

I cannot understand how a Republican could vote for a pro-abortion candidate simply because he was better fiscally.

I understand Romney being unacceptably liberal.
I understand McCain being a media whore and a threat to the First Amendment.
I don’t understand you conclusion that George Allen is unacceptable. On what do you base that decision? I lived in Virginia when he was governor and can vouch for him being a strong conservative. He’s not perfect, but he is an honest man (at least more honest than most politicians). I’m not sure Huckabee or Brownback have the necessary name recognition. If they are serious they need to get busy and get themselves well known by primary voters soon.

I base my statement on the facts enumerated in this post: http://republicanbydesign.com/wordpress/2006/05/2008-george-allen-for-president

In short, Allen has voted against a bill banning human cloning, voted for adding homosexuals to hate crimes bills as a protected class, and adopted a “pro-life” position that allows exceptions for 90%+ of abortions to remain legal.

He believes that abortions should be legal in the cases of life or health of the mother, rape, incest, fetal deformity, and, as he indicated to Project Vote Smart in a 2000 response, he appparently believes that abortions should remain legal until viability. Pre-viability abortions, or abortions before the baby could survive outside of the womb, account for 90%+ of abortions. Allen opposes partial birth abortions, but beyond that his supposedly “pro-life” stance is 90%+ just rhetoric.

Mike Huckabee has a sterling record as Governor of Arkansas. Governor Huckabee demonstrated from the time he ran for the Senate and lost to his opponent that he was up to any political battle front or challenge. Quickly after losing the Senate race, he re-organized to successfully run and win the Lt. Governorship race with a very comfortable margin. When he was given a junker of a car to drive and placed in a bank vault for an office, he adapted, proved amazingly creative and resourceful to earn even the respect of Governor Jim Guy Tucker who eventually located Lt Gov. Huckabee in a proper office. When Gov. Tucker ran into problems and the state government was placed into a constitutional crisis, Lt. Gov. Mike Huckabee again stepped to the plate and proved he was worthy to be the Arkansas Goverenor with his undefeatble spirit. As Governor Mike Huckabee took office as one of 3 republicans in the state government, again he had an uncanny gift to rise to the occasion and work with a Democratic Party-controlled state government. Since taking office as Governor, he has been attacked on many political fronts and still has won re-election to the office of Governor with comfortable margins twice. He has proven to Arkansasans that he can truly be the civil servant of all the people of all parties. Gov. Huckabee’s accomplishments are visible and real. He has been an asset and a credit to the state of Arkansas. Interstates have been improved. Education in state-run schools are among the best in the nation. Arkansas schools have not only improved academically, but strive to improve the health of students while working to improve the student’s character. Health care for adults have also been addressed in the state. Governor Huckabee is Pro-Life, Pro-gun rights and does not believe that the Constitution of the United States is a living, breathing document to have change be legislated by a judge. Governor Huckabee has a special place in the history of this nation that I believe has not been fully appreciated at this point in time. I trust that the American people will examine his political victories and record. After they examine all the candidates, I believe that they will conclude that Gov. Huckabee would make one of the greatest Presidents of all time. He would bring dignity to the office and enhance our patriotic pride in this great nation! I pray that he will be given the opportunity to demonstrate his God given gift of leadership.

Huckabee sounds like a good Presidential Candidate. We need not have anymore Evil Politicians and those who support Evil Regimes like the Communist United Nations. Clinton was an Evil NWO Goon and supported violation of our U.S. Constitutional Rights. U.S. Constitutional Rights were designed to protect the People, they AREN’T privelages they are RIGHTS! Primarily to protect the People from the Government, if the Government decides they’re going to violate the People’s Rights. Although Bush’s Patriot Act does violate the Fifth Ammendment Right to Habeus Corpus to an Arrest under times of Emergency, which isn’t too good either. There should be a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY among ALL U.S. Citizens against anything that would violate ANY U.S. Constitutional Rights whatsoever! Especially the Bill of Rights and more awareness of the Preamble of the U.S. Constitution among ALL U.S. Citizens in conjunction with the the Bill of Rights. But Bush isn’t a Gun Control idiot since a true Republican is a Defender of the U.S. Constitution, which includes myself. We are a Republic. No Democrats!, and HELL NO! NO HILLARY!!!, in 2008, lol. However, to be blamed is the Communist U.N. and those evil politicians here in the U.S. who united the U.N. with the U.S. The U.N. has NO business being part of the U.S. and her Government. I like Huckabee because he’s Pro Gun Rights, and believes in God and the life of good people. He’ll most certainly get my vote. I also Heard McCain isn’t to be trusted and is an Evil Pro Gun Control Goon like Kerry is as well. The Second Ammendment is a RIGHT, NOT a privelage such as driving a car is. The rest of the World of mostly evil and ignorant, Socialists and Communists without any Rights, have no business messing with our God-Given U.S. Constitution. Hopefully Huckabee will kick the U.N. out of American Politics and Soil for good! Gun Control ONLY supports criminals since they can get ANYTHING whether it is legal or not, and violates the RIGHTS of many millions of Hunters, Gun Enthusiasts, Homeowners and Sportsman who ARE law-abiding citizens. Criminals can get ANYTHING legal or not, and making your own firearms and their ammunition is easier than building small engines, for firearms are just another internal combustion engine but for which run on easily made propellants instead of hydrocarbons. Also Freon powered gas rifles, crossbows, gasoline bombs, axes, hammers, spears, bows, throwing knives are just as deadly or more deadly than firearms which take more skill than un-educated people seem to understand, in order be consistently deadly. So the Gun Control “debate” is stemmed from either idiots with no real education about things in general or from from purely evil people bent on tyranny, world slavery and genocide, such as the Communist U.N. and the Socialistic Brits. Cars, Doctors, Bad Food and the FDA kill far more law-abiding people than do firearms, where most of the so-called “victims” of gunfire are criminals themselves killing each other. People have the Right to defend themselves from violent crime, and wherever there is Zero Gun Control and high rates of Gun Ownership, there exists little or no violent crime, and no break-ins of occupied dwellings. Wherever there is heavy gun control, just the opposite exists, since criminals know they’ll choose the unarmed as a target. Simply widespread knowledge of law-abiding people being armed is deterent enough so criminals don’t even attempt to target them period. No need for an argument, Gun Control is PURE EVIL and plain out wrong. I’m sure Hitler and the bigotted Socialists of the UK, along with the Communists of Europe, Russia, India, and China would disagree with me on that, but any truly educated and truly good people out there surely would NOT. Huckabee seems like he’d be a real President for America in 2008. Sincerely Yours, Naveen R. Singh;(R); 31, M; MICH.;US — (A&P Mechanic; Small Engines Mechanic; Auto Mechanic; Gunsmith; Hunter; and Sport Marksman)

I support Mike Huckabee. I am anti Abortion and am against same sex marriage. He would do this country some good in becoming president

I’m pretty sure that Huckabee would allow the states to make their own laws regarding abortion. So he would be pro-state’s-choice.
As far as same sex marriage goes, Huckabee is anti-american. In America the government should not be involved in interpersonal relationships. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a Big Government communist who does not understand the basic principles of liberty. Any number of adults should be allowed to enter into any number of contracts, and if government is to have a role it is to enforce and mediate these contracts. If you want to engineer societies through force, then leave my country.

Maybe I was a little harsh in my first post. I don’t think people should leave the country if they hold anti-liberty ideas. But they should reconsider their views and in the very least not push them on other people.

Tell us what you're thinking...
