Border Security on it’s way - Soon??

The border patrol reporting minutemen to the Mexican government didn’t sit well with conservatives. The Republicans must be noticing that conservatives in the party are less than excited by the recent desire to act like moderates on the border issue. So somethings seem to be in the works. STOP The ACLU finds that the President will be making a Prime Time Address on Monday though with some reservation.
So, will it be more lip service, or will he actually address the issue with real action? Will it be more of the same, or has the public outcry finally been heard? Will the speech be in English or Spanish?
A strong initial signal was sent by the House as they voted 252-171 to authorize Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld to assign National Guard troops to the border.
The request comes as some Southern lawmakers met this week with White House strategist Karl Rove for a discussion that included making greater use of National Guard troops to shore up border control. Congress is poised to pass legislation this month that would call for additional border security, a new guest worker program and provisions opening the way to eventual citizenship for many of the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the country.
Perhaps by the time the speech is given on Monday the Senate indicate that it plans to follow the House vote with a similar vote. Perhaps the time for talking is over and the border security will become priority one for the government. It is long over due. Not just a gesture but a new policy and action to secure the border. Something long over due and promised by both sides in the Reagan administration. I hold my breath in anticipation (well… only in short stretches).
