Pastors Feeding Prodigal’s Way Is No Help

It’s a common story for those dealing with such cases. People call up needing emergency money, food or some similar financial help. Many know how to work the system and when questioned closer their stories begin to fall apart. (Note: There are exceptions… but this is about the problem).

There was a great commentary that appeared in the Lima News.

Luke 15 tells the story of the son who squandered his inheritance and of how hunger brought him to repentance.

Years ago, charity was a function of the local church and the church leadership followed biblical principles, such as refusing to feed those who refused to work. The person was assisted in finding gainful employment and their eternal destiny was deemed more important than their temporary comfort.

Today, many churches have adopted a socialistic philosophy. Some pastors will deliver a trunkload of groceries or will give out cash or gift cards with no accountability required.

One young lady recently told me that her new pastor advised her live-in boyfriend to turn his paycheck over to her, so he would not be tempted to use it for drugs. Does this pastor believe the biblical admonition that “all fornicators will have their part in the lake of fire”? If he doesn’t, he should confess that fact to those who pay his salary. If he does believe it, he should stop sending care packages to those who refuse to leave their pigsty lifestyle.

It’s always easier to throw money at a problem than to seek a solution and there are certainly are many problems in this young lady’s life. For many months, her former pastor spent many hours trying to help her make better choices, as well as helping her in practical ways. The new pastor only made it easy for her to escape the minimal accountability her real pastor required of her.

Many parents are praying for the day their children will stop making self-destructive choices. Pastors, please stop feeding their prodigal ways.

Well stated. From churches to politicians, those who want to help (or appear like they care) throw money and effort without any real accountability to change. There are many who would benefit from this letter to the paper.

Legal Gun Owners Reduce Florida Crime

Diggers Realm posts positive on the 2nd Amendment. He isn’t (and neither are you readers) that crime rate is the lowest it has been since 1971 because of 2nd Amendment rights.

Florida’s crime rate dropped for the 14th straight year in 2005 to its lowest mark since 1971 because of tougher laws, increased financial support from the Legislature and law-abiding citizens with guns, Gov. Jeb Bush said Tuesday.

”This report shows that staying tough on crime works,” Bush said. “Law abiding citizens that have guns for protection actually probably are part of the reason we have a lower crime rate.”

Last year Bush signed a bill that allows people who feel threatened on the street, in a bar, at a ball game — or just about anywhere — to ”meet force with force” to defend themselves without fear of being prosecuted.

”You send a real powerful signal when you know the citizen has a good potential of being armed and doesn’t have to back off anymore,” said John Birch, president of Concealed Carry Inc. in Illinois.

Opponents, however, have said the idea would legalize shootouts in the streets.

No doubt the critics are dead wrong and if they are ever threatened by thugs may find they were truly ‘dead’ wrong.

Robbin’ In Sherrod Brown’s Forest

Yes. Sherrod Brown to the rescue. Ready to see that minimum wage rise to $7.25 as his plan unfolds to help himself and Strickland win their respective Ohio races. Why should any entry level job cause anyone be stuck with a non-livable income. Brown sees an easy fix to Republican rule. Put it on the floor and force Republicans to rob all those Americans of their “American Dream”.

“This bill actually stands a chance of being signed into law,” said Rep. Frank LoBiondo, R-N.J. “If we really want to give relief to working men and women who deserve this change, this is the opportunity.”

But Democrats criticized the decision as a cynical charade intended to give Republicans the appearance of supporting an increase in the minimum wage through a bill that will not clear the Senate because of opposition there to an estate tax change aimed at extremely affluent Americans.

Should it go through and then be signed I doubt that little robbin “Sherrod Brown’s” band of merry men really will tell their motivation for such a ploy (Ok.. beyond the obvious get out the vote and beat Republicans into submission). It will do three things which every American won’t like.

1. Raising the minumum wage will force the rate of everyone’s salaries, or at least their expectations, to rise at the same (or greater) rate. Who will want to be making 7.25 still after it becomes the minimum wage? Laborers will look at the base and say my wage must go up as well. Some companies will have to lay off, especially the smaller ones.

2. All these wonderful increases will result in… can you guess???… higher prices passed on to the consumer. Even gas stations will be forced to add something to the pump price. Soon the increase that put more money in their pockets will be lost on higher prices.

3. The dirty little secret is that Washington will glean greater revenue to increased taxes generated by everyone being a slightly higher tax bracket. Also the sales tax on higher priced items will cause greater revenue generation as well. Ahhh… more money to spend. Just what every Dem is salivating over.

Yes. And expect even greater increases in the government coffers when Dems (if they pull it off) get into office and have the real power to control the tax and spend drivers wheel. The only thing dumber that Sherrods support of this are the people who really will buy into this “you will be better off” speech he gave on TV in northwest Ohio.

The Blade, Dems and GOP Filth?

July 30, 2006 by Conservative Culture

Well, it seems as if the Blade has uncovered something terrible. Filth! Of course it came from the GOP.

The e-mail — sent July 17 by the state Republican Party’s social conservative coordinator, Gary Lankford, and first reported Sunday by The Blade — attacked Mr. Strickland’s resume and alleged piety, and it linked to an Internet post suggesting that both he and his wife, Frances, are gay.

Of course it was an accusation that on the surface appears slanderous and most improbable. No one wanted to ‘dig’ to get to the truth. Or as Kennedy might say… deal with the “seriousness of the allegations.” (You have to love Teddy’s desire to deal with the seriousness of the allegations toward Republicans). No. The whistle blower wannabe Lankford received the Schwarzenegger award by being terminated. Of course this would satisfy Dem leadership.

Mr. Strickland called the firing “appropriate” but said the e-mail would have gone “quietly under the radar” if The Blade had not reported it. “You caught them, basically,” he said.

The state Democratic Party chairman, Chris Redfern, said Republicans waited too long to act on the message. “It wouldn’t take me a week to fire someone who disseminated such filth and hatred,” he said.

Ahhh… the smell of Dem indignation fills the air. Of course no Dem would hesitate to point out filth and express indignation at inappropriate behavior. Good thing Ohio Dem Leader Redfern doesn’t tolerate race baiting the race either.

Mr. Bennett ended his apology letter by asking Mr. Strickland to denounce what he called a “racially motivated hate campaign” by some Democrats against Mr. Blackwell, who is African-American. A GOP spokesman said Mr. Bennett was referring to a Cleveland flyer from a group called “Blacks Against Blackwell,” which reportedly dubs Mr. Blackwell “Our color — but not our kind.”

Oh I am sure some action will be take anytime now… waiting… someone surely will be fired over such racist remarks in an age of diversity and tolerance… still waiting…. waiting… zzzzzzzzzzz.

Why Urge Israel into A Cease Fire?

July 29, 2006 by Conservative Culture

Why try to urge a cease fire? Hezbollah, Lebanon and Syria are all entangled with Terrorists (ignoring Iran for the moment). Especially after the 911 attack on New York we found ourselves in a war on terrorism.

“We will starve terrorists of funding, turn them one against another, drive them from place to place, until there is no refuge or no rest. And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation in every region now has a decision to make – either you are with us or you are with the terrorists. From this day forward any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime.” (September 20, 2001).

So it goes without saying that Israel’s actions are consistent with both Israeli policy and also in line with the national security interests of the United States. It would easily be argued that ridding the world of state sponsored terror is in the best interests of the entire world.

Israel response points to the real problem if there is one in getting aid to those who need it.
“There is no need for a 72-hour temporary ceasefire because Israel has opened a humanitarian corridor to-and-from Lebanon,” said Israeli government spokesman Avi Pazner.

UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Jan Egeland had asked for the 72-hour cessation of hostilities to facilitate aid efforts.

Pazner said Israel was not blocking aid from reaching south Lebanon.

It is Hizbollah which is deliberately preventing the transfer of medical aid and food to the population of southern Lebanon in order to create a humanitarian crisis, which they want to blame Israel for,” he said.

Ahhh…. France. At least they are consistent. They urge Israel to stop the fighting. It seems they don’t want their thug buddies to dry up and die. As it was in Iraq we see France doing the same in the latest conflict. Perhaps they also have a deal with Hezbollah like they did with Saddam.

Would it not be wise for Israel to continue north until the thugs are backed into Syria? Then establish a true democracy in Lebanon? If attacks continue… and they will… then go into Syria and do the same. Then they can remove the WMD’s that Syria is holding for Saddam’s cronies. Ahhh… but none of that will take place. The failure of 30-40 years of fake peace treaties will continue as a new “peace” can be established once again for all time!
