Huckabee makes Post Top 5

The Fix, Chris Cillizza’s Washington Post political blog, came out with its most recent installment on the 2008 Presidential race.

It listed the top 5 Republican contenders in alphabetical order:

George Allen
Newt Gingrich
Mike Huckabee
John McCain
Mitt Romney

If it comes down to this list, the conservatives’ choice is clear: Mike Huckabee. He’s the best on the social issues.

Politically, he stands to advantage, because the voters are the least familiar with his record. It seems the trend has been away from selecting people who have been national names for two decades or more to lead the ticket. Ever since 1976, most successful national tickets (Carter/Mondale, Reagan/Bush, Clinton/Gore, Bush/Cheney) have had a successful “outsider” Governor heading the ticket, with the Washington Experience man at the No. 2 spot.
