The fair is in full swing. It was there that I was stopped by what I thought might be a Republican. The man said, “I heard that Strickland is for guns.” Of course I don’t believe that even if Strickland said he was for guns. One might say “He was against guns before he was for them.”
Then he said that he heard that Fisher has a bad record. That I believed but to be honest I didn’t really know a lot about Fisher. Probably have heard it but didn’t retain it type of thing. I already know how I’m voting but here is a Republican asking these things (so I thought). Then the man mentioned that he might have to cross over on the vote this year.
That is when I realized that the man was a Democrat and was contemplating crossing over to the Republican ticket on this one issue alone. Smart man. There are many more like him in Northwest Ohio. Dems who are smart on the gun issue. The idea of a Fish type personality determining their future on the gun issue scares them and it should. My problem is that being on the front lines I have heard next to nil. We all know the race is on but it is almost as if the campaigns are wearing a cloaking device. I’ve seen Blackwell twice at relatively small events. That has been some time ago. There are three topics I really believe will carry Northwest Ohio… reduce taxes, reduce the sales tax and strengthen the gun rights of Ohioans.
Perhaps it is going to happen in the last 45 days. But we are getting down to the end here folks and the message that won brought conservatives to greater prominence need to be at the forefront of the battle. I just hope that the Taffites haven’t infected the campaign of Blackwell. High profile appearances in the key battle counties will be not only advisable but critical to the Republicans winning. If not the prevailing… we need change… they had their chance… let the Dems raise our taxes mindset will win.
Perhaps we can get Bennett to have Taft endorse Strickland. That would be the greatest boost to the campaign. It would be alone worth 20 points.
