But in fact there’s nothing ordinary about Citgo. One of the USA’s largest refiners, Citgo is a subsidiary of Venezuela’s state-owned oil company, Petroleos de Venezuela S.A. (PDVSA). As such, it ultimately belongs to Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, an avowedly anti-American leader who counts Fidel Castro among his closest friends and mocks President Bush as a “genocidal murderer.”
It appears that we have an independent democratic candidate in Allen County who likes his signs at Citgo.

If this happened to a Republican the cries would be loud, clear and repeated. When it happens to Ted Strickland it remains under the radar. Lets look at what is out there about Strickland’s possible felonies (would be if I did this).
This time the candidate in question with residency AND voter-registration issues, something that came back to haunt McEwen in his second primary run a few months ago, is, ironically, the person who ended Bob McEwen’s congressional career in 1992.
That would be Ohio gubernatorial candidate Ted Strickland:

LISBON - Democrat Jaquelyn Long of East Liverpool today challenged the candidacy of gubernatorial candidate Ted Strickland to the Columbiana County Board of Elections because of allegations of election fraud in Columbiana County.
“I am tired of seeing political commercials of Ted Strickland claiming he lives in Lisbon when he actually resides in Columbus,” said Long. This is exactly why I filed this challenge against him. He doesn’t pay taxes here, so he shouldn’t vote here.”
Pursuant to Ohio Revised Code R.C. 3503.24(C), Long asked the Columbiana County Board of Elections to remove Ted Strickland’s name from the registration list and concel his voter registration…..
As we know Strickland is campaigning against a “culture of corruption” in Columbus. Yet he has never addressed this issue or the “sex predator” issue that’s been dogging him. Time to answer some questions I think.

Let’s keep perspective since Democrats like saying that are ‘less guilty’ than Republicans. Bob Taft’s crimes were misdemeanors. Ted Strickland’s apparent crimes are felonies. With the importance of keeping fraud out of our elections, I believe Ted would have been better off at this point playing some free golf. This is dispicable.
* I am also glad a demcorat in Columbiana County thought enough of this story to file it. It creates an interesting problem for Ted Strickland. See, his internet lackeys used Scott Pullins to suggest the story lacked credibility. They even attacked my credibility because I didn’t buy their spin (which, I have made clear, makes me happy). They can’t do that in this situation. One of their own realized Ted was lying. One of their own filled charges. One of their own clearly understands the law in such a way that Strickland’s blogger lackeys failed to.
Consider this also posted by Lincoln Logs who has his ear to the ground.
I am a reasonable guy. As I allowed for in August, I am more than willing to accept Ted’s word on the fact that he, indeed, considers Lisbon his primary residence. I really am.
Of course, then, I would advise the Franklin County Sheriff to arrest him for tax fraud, because he received the primary residence property tax reduction. Remember, he had to sign, under penalty of perjury THIS FORM (PDF) saying he considers the condo in Franklin County his primary residence.
So which is it Ted? Election Fraud or Tax Fraud? I am willing to allow Ted to pick the crime. Just as I am willing to bet the voters can make the right pick in November as well.
It appears pretty clear based on the evidence. At best it warrants an investigation. At worst it’s a felony charge and end of his career. But remember this is the democratic party. I am not sure the party in Ohio is willing to flush millions down the drain and ask him to resign. If all is as reported Strickland makes Taft look like a boy scout. This is the anti-Taft candidate? Get real.
Hat tip: Ban The ACLU This was found on youtube and it’s pretty short at 3 minutes. I wish I could find more footage somewhere. It is an accurate account of the ACLU’s founding. Does the ACLU’s communist founding mean anything about what the ACLU is today? Well, if you plant a lemon seed would you expect the tree to produce peaches? Compare their current goals to the 45 communist goals in the Congressional Record and decide for yourself.
One of the greatest myths about the ACLU is that they started out as a noble cause. The roots of a tree go deep. There is no question that it was founded on communist/socialist principles. There is no question to the founder of the ACLU, Roger Baldwin’s, ideals.
“I have been to Europe several times, mostly in connection with international radical activities…and have traveled in the United States to areas of conflict over workers rights to strike and organize. My chief aversion is the system of greed, private profit, privilege and violence which makes up the control of the world today, and which has brought it to the tragic crisis of unprecedented hunger and unemployment…Therefore, I am for Socialism, disarmament and ultimately, for the abolishing of the State itself…I seek the social ownership of property, the abolition of the propertied class and sole control of those who produce wealth. Communism is the goal.”
Only after the Nazi-Soviet Non-Agression Pact of 1939, which allowed Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party to take over much of Eastern Europe, did Mr. Baldwin become disenchanted with the Soviet version of Communism. Yet Baldwin held Communist/Socialist sympathies to the end of his life. Later in life, he said,…
“Anti-communism never affected our civil liberties very much. And the Communist party in the United States was certainly never strong enough to be a menace at any time in any way. The only menace was the people who believed in a Communist dictatorship, which is a denial of civil liberties. They did not belong with us in a leadership position.”Source
Baldwin rid the ACLU board of overt Communists because of his anger about the Nazi-Soviet pact, establishing a policy that read, in part: “The Board of Directors and the National Committee of the American Civil Liberties Union….hold it inappropriate for any person to serve on the governing committees of the Union or its staff, who is a member of any political organization which supports totalitarian dictatorship in any country, or who by his public declarations indicates his support of such a principle.” Source
While Mr. Baldwin made a great show of the Communist purge in 1940 he never let go of his passion for socialist ideals. Neither did the ACLU. In 1961 numerous communist connections were entered into the Congressional Record. In November of 1964 the ACLU came to the defense of Communist-front organizations. The Union argued that there was a fundamental difference between a Communist-action organization and a Communist-front group.
Throughout the 1960s many members of the ACLU took umbrage at the principles of the 1940 Resolution. According to William Donohue’s book, The Politics of the American Civil Liberties Union, a 1967 Resolution was viewed by many on the board that voted for it to supersede and effectively rendered the 1940 Resolution impotent. In April of 1967 the ACLU board voted to rescind the 1940 decision of ousting Elizabeth Gurley Flynn for her uncompromising support for Communism. More important than the vote to recognize Flynn was the board’s conclusion that “the expulsion of Ms. Flynn was not consonant with the basic principles on which the ACLU was founded and has acted for fifty-four years.” The board also agreed that language should be drafted to indicate its happiness with the removal of the 1940 Resolution from the ACLU constitution in 1967.”
