Strickland Calls Tax Cuts “Nutty”
October 5, 2006 |
They keep putting the idea that some how Strickland will be a fresh change for Ohio from Bob Taft. Instead it clearly appears that Strickland will be for more taxes. Just what I DON’T want or need. Where is anyone besides Blackwell who asks me if I can afford anymore of Taft’s Taxes. Strickland worries about job creation without wondering why Ohio is so far behind. Could part of the problem be the taxes? Of course they are.
So calling Blackwell’s idea “Nutty” on tax cuts only reaffirms to me that Ohio would be truly nuts to elect Strickland.
While Blackwell goes to the heart of Ohio’s economic problem Strickland remains unconcerned.
Republican Ken Blackwell and Democrat Ted Strickland wrangled Wednesday night over whether deep tax cuts would boost the state’s economy or help the wealthy during the third debate of the governor’s race.
Blackwell says he offers bold innovative changes as opposed to what he called Strickland’s “therapeutic tinkering.”
Strickland responded by saying he was more concerned with addressing the state’s problems than with name calling. He says Ohio needs a change after sixteen years of Republican control.
Lets get this election over with. It is just this clear. Strickland doesn’t see high taxes as a problem for Ohio. Case closed. Ohioans wake up and vote. Or take another job so you can pay for the new taxes coming your way.
For an excellent article on Let Blackwell be Blackwell go to Newshound. It’s the must read of the day on the Ohio Governor’s race. Here is an excerpt.
Blackwell’s gifted. He could say all that in 30 seconds, and say it well. He could probably write the ad himself.
The people I talk to are indeed sick of scandal, in Ohio and nationally - but not quite in the way most Democrats seem to think. I believe most Ohioans find all these political scandals symptomatic of a lack of direction, a lack of unifying themes and goals and a lack of connection between average citizens and politicians. They may simply “throw the bums out” and hand power over to Democrats rather than Republicans - but they’d much rather take power away from self-serving partisans on both sides and hand it over to civically-minded leaders from either party who can provide the vision and energy everyone desires to unite behind.
Democrat Ted Strickland had an enormous opportunity to provide that uniting vision and bring Ohioans aboard to vote FOR him rather than against whoever the GOP put up. He could have sewn some long coattails and carried Democrats to victory in the General Assembly, giving him the chance to implement that vision. Instead, he took a pass, and now seeks to coast into office without any real support or mandate.
Blackwell still has time to give voters something to vote FOR, but it is running short.
