From The Washington Times: Officials Held Hostage By Farmers in China. (via TIA Daily)

Hundreds of enraged farmers in southern China surrounded a granary and for nearly 24 hours held hostage dozens of officials and investors gathered inside, villagers said Thursday, in the latest sign of rural unrest in the region. The officials and investors had gathered to mark the opening of the granary, which farmers said had been built on seized land for which they received inadequate compensation. Riot police, who arrived Wednesday evening and stood by through the night, forced their way into the granary and allowed the hostages to leave early Thursday afternoon, villagers said.

The incident, in Guangdong province’s Sanzhou village, was the latest in a two-year string of such occurrences in rural China, often brought on by discontent among farmers over the seizure of fields by local officials, who then sell the land for development. The issue is particularly acute in Guangdong, where swift urban growth has put increasing pressure on farmland in the Pearl River Delta just north of Hong Kong.

The Purpose Driven Life: Jihad Style

Pastor Rick Warren, who yesterday met with [Syrian] President Al-Assad and Foreign Minister Al-Mu’allim, said: “Washington is wrong not to hold dialogue with Syria, which wants peace. I call on the Americans to visit Syria and meet its beautiful people. I will tell the Americans that their idea about Syria does not reflect the truth.” This is what the American clergyman said after seeing the facts on the ground. It was not in his interest not to say the truth about what he himself and the accompanying Protestant delegation saw and felt.

I have no problem for preachers to say that their nation is wrong about some particular issue. What amazes me is that he didn’t also challenge Syrian officials to stop sponsoring terror and their involvement in Iraq. Would that be asking a tad to much? Is this just another unraveling thread in the tapestry of our nation? Watch for more to come.

Next year, Warren is scheduled to visit North Korea at the invitation of its despotic Communist regime. It is reasonable to assume that the North Korean state-controlled media will issue reports about Warren’s visit there that are remarkably similar to the Syria’s dictatorship’s boastful coverage of Warren’s chit-chat with them.
It is sad story, repeated often. Big-name U.S. preachers, often otherwise sensible and orthodox in their faith, visit despotic regimes and naively curry favor with police state thugs. The preachers supinely believe that their cozy ties with the dictatorship will facilitate greater preaching access to the oppressed populations. But the end result more usually is a propaganda bonanza for the tyrants, and a population that is left to feel forgotten by the outside world.

Well, I wonder if his adoring book readers will be taken back enough to do something.. like no longer support his book sales. Some how I doubt it. With 30,000 followers I doubt that he feels any way diminished by this criticism. HT to Western Resistance.

Blasting the Christian Prosperity Pimps

Posted by Conservative Culture On November - 15 - 2006

Independent Conservative is all over this topic. Many Christians are taken in by the sham of send me the $20 to learn how to be rich sham.

Men of God are being led by the Lord to raise up his standard against those who preach the lies of the Prosperity Gospel. While hanging out over at Pulpit Pimps today, I found a comment from someone named Cobi, who mentioned a man known as Pastor Donnie, that is calling out the pimps.

Whether you agree or not… please post your comments. If your comment doesn’t go through let me know through the contact page as Spam Karma is watching.

Indeed he has show just how lasting he has been. Out living even President Reagan.

Gerald Ford has become the longest-living US president after reaching 93 years and 121 days on Sunday, surpassing Ronald Reagan.

Mr Ford, who was born on 14 July, 1913, in Omaha, Nebraska, became president following the resignation of Richard Nixon over Watergate in 1974.
