UCLA Student Tazered: Refused to comply

While the students and activists on campus will use this as police brutality from the campus toy cops. In reality it appears not only a deliberate attempt to provoke an encounter but perhaps stages to create an incident. The elections have emboldened those overseas and perhaps those on the campus. Though we don’t know what caused the officers to remove the student from the library. Lets view how the LA Times is treating it.

The LA Times:

A cellphone camera captures UCLA police using a Taser on a student who allegedly refused to leave the library Tuesday night.

Allegedly? No… it was clear he refused multiple times. Even creating a scene where the officers could have been hurt if the students had been riled even more.

According to a campus police report, the incident began when community service officers, who serve as guards at the library, began their nightly routine of checking to make sure everyone using the library after 11 p.m. is a student or otherwise authorized to be there.

For the Record: In a earlier version of this article, a quote from Mostafa Tabatabainejad read: “Here’s your Patriot Act, here’s your use of power.” The corrected quote reads ” “Here’s your Patriot Act, here’s your … abuse of power.”

Campus officials said the long-standing policy was adopted to ensure students’ safety.

When Tabatabainejad, 23, refused to provide his ID to the community service officer, the officer told him he would have to show it or leave the library, the report said.

After repeated requests, the officer left and returned with campus police, who asked Tabatabainejad to leave “multiple times,” according to a statement by the UCLA Police Department.

“He continued to refuse,” the statement said. “As the officers attempted to escort him out, he went limp and continued to refuse to cooperate with officers or leave the building.”

Stupid LA Times they provoke in the headline a perception not true and refuted by the video and their reporting.

Then they add this.

It was beyond grotesque,” said UCLA graduate David Remesnitsky of Los Angeles, who witnessed the incident. “By the end they took him over the stairs, lifted him up and Tasered him on his rear end. It seemed like it was inappropriately placed. The Tasering was so unnecessary and they just kept doing it.”…

One video showed a Los Angeles Police Department officer dousing a handcuffed suspect in the face with pepper spray as the suspect sat in a patrol car.

This is no moderate Muslim calling for those around him to rise against the authorities. They are beginning their recruitment so it seems. CAIR is in on this also now.

CAIR: ISLAMIC LEADERS CALL FOR PROBE OF STUDENT TASERING

Southern California Islamic leaders are calling for an independent investigation into Tuesday night’s incident at the UCLA library where campus police apparently stunned a student with a “Taser” gun.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations urged “state and national authorities, including the FBI” to investigate the incident involving the 23-year-old Mostafa Tabatabainejad.

A reader of Michelle Malkin weighs in as a police officer and a trainer.

I watched the taped you had posted on your blog about the UCLA officer. I am a police officer, as well as a trainer in situations similar to this.

What the officer did wrong was continue to ask the subject for compliance. I can tell by his (the officer’s) actions and his words that he is so afraid of doing the “wrong” thing that he has let the safety and well being of both himself and the others in the area become secondary. Police officers across the country are taught to take action quickly and most importantly “don’t’ do it like they do in California.” In other places without the PC police, that guy would have been jacked up and carried out in under 30 seconds, without tasers, noise, or video.

….I always ask new recruits, “Would you rather hit a person with your nightclub one time as hard as you can in the leg and gain control, OR hit him softly (the pc version) over and over until he gives up. Inevitably, new recruits are afraid to answer until I add…” don’t forget a TV camera is recording.” One solid strike is usually all it takes to gain compliance from someone like the offender in the video, and by the time that is over the folks with the cameras don’t even have time to push record.

I agree with Malkin. If the officers did do something criminal then they should be charged. But you watch the video and see who baited who. I also agree with the reader. The repeated warnings to comply are like trying to get a resistant child to comply. Don’t keep asking over and over. Ask twice and then just take the appropriate action. In this case a blow or taser would do. Then two take him by the arms and haul him off.

Troublemaking Muslim student gets tasered, police-…

The UCLA had a Muslim student who defied campus police, refused to show an ID, and shreiked instead of just leaving a library laboratory cooperatively when the time came. You can see this video to find out just what happened (via Michelle Malkin), an…..

I hate how liberals and hippies love to construe the facts at hand. It is obvious that the police were not just looking for some Muslim perosn to tazer. The guy was REFUSING to leave, not only by library officials, but by police officers. They only tazered him when he wouldnt get up. The best part I like, is how at the end of the video, some student is threatened by the cop when he says, “If you dont shut up, I will tazer you too.” People just need to learn when to keep their mouth shut, and in this case, students only made it worse.

I am a student at FSU, and we have never had a problem like this, and I hope we dont. I am sick and tired of people putting the blame on the only people who sacrifice their lives to protect ours. This country is starting to sicken me…and the fact that I will be serving in the miltary after college, and putting MY life on the line for liberals makes me sick. God Bless America, and God Bless the United States Police Force.

The police were absolutely right! The student knows the library rules. If he is not willing to comply with the library’s rules then DON’T go in the library!

This is an absolute abuse of authority by using a tazor repeatedly to dehumanize, humiliate, and enforce order. There are plenty of humane, intelligent ways of dealing with situations without the use of extreme force. Tazoring is and should be used to subjegate dangerous felons until they are handcuffed, ect. not to enforce an individualized style of policing against a college student. We enforce laws not break them. Police are only uniforms inhabited by individual humans as varied as the people you meet. There is a responsiblity to maintain integrity, not just anything goes, because you have a uniform on. One problem is the lack of humaneness in America today. Brutality and violence seem to be the rule. Good luck with that one.

To be honest, I don’t see how you draw so much information from that video.

It doesn’t show what happened before or after the short scene, which clearly starts somewhere mid-action. I can’t tell who got “drastic” first, for one. I certainly can’t tell whether he staged the conflict or whether he simply panicked.

The only thing I can say with certainty is that I can hear a person in panic (real or fake), and police officers placing that person under pressure, which is obviously a bad idea (because either it will drive him further into panic, or play into his hands if he did stage it). Had they tried to calm the situation and instead of tasering him simply lifted him up and carried him off site, I think much of the fuss could’ve been prevented.

Note, I’m not one of those folks who consider the police abusive b*stards. Policemen have a difficult job and I salute any of them who do it well. I simply think that this situation could’ve been dealt with much, much better.

And Chris, do you honestly consider a policeman threatening to attack a civilian for speaking out against him a good thing?

For gods sakes people, this kid was in a friggin College Library STUDYING (not partying) and a “random check” showed he didn’t have his “BruinCard”. BFD. omg what is this world coming to? This kid wasn’t bothering anybody, it was only a random check that started this scene. REAL ID is mandatory by May 2008.How would you like it if you get tazered because you forget your REAL ID? Or it gets stolen? What could be more mundane than studying? Omg now we can’t study if we don’t have our ID? I am totally disgusted by the tazering and incredible multiple injustices. LA is reknown for its police brutality. So if the kid wasn’t asked to produce an ID, he would have just……..kept……..studying, simple as that. I can’t wait for CA to fall off into the sea and floats all the way to the bottom where it belongs, in the mud and filth.

What does his religion have to do with this. He had no accent, so I would assume he’s a US Citizen. Also, he was in the process of leaving when the taser nazis arrived, hence the reason you see him by the exit to the library. This taser B.S. is getting out of control and in some some cases is a death sentence for people with heart conditions. I guess the neo-con, FAUX NEWS assholes that have given us The Patriot Act and The Military Commissions ACT all think this is just sound police work, but let’s get real. These same fascist jerkoffs support the fake WAR ON TERROR as well as unbridled military aggression based on false pretenses, so no one should be surprised that these sheeple would have a problem with this type of criminal activity by local law enforcement officials that have the intellect of a mildly retarded ranch hand.
