Must See TV: Zucker and the Dem Taxman

Posted by Conservative Culture On December - 19 - 2006

I think the ad provides a great idea. Make the taxes real… visible and really painful. Payroll deduction is the worst thing for the taxpayer. There just isn’t the sense of “ouch”. So watch the ad and dream just a bit.

Zucker: From Chamberlain to Baker

Posted by Conservative Culture On December - 19 - 2006

You got to love it when good humor pokes a little fun when people forget history. Negotiate a peace with those who are helping the terrorists. Iran would love to help us leave… “go or we blow you up. Can we do more to help?”

The Slut “Chic” Culture

Posted by Conservative Culture On December - 19 - 2006

Interesting article that covers more about the contradictions from Paris Hilton to the reprimand of Miss USA. The glamor seems to be gravitating from responsibility and respectability to what is now called the Slut “Chic” culture.

From Paris Hilton’s rise to fame through a sexually explicit video traded on the Internet to spring-break antics verging on soft-core pornography and movies that celebrate binge-drinking bashes, today’s commercial culture glamorizes bad behavior.

That sets up a contradiction that is both confusing and dangerous to young people, particularly women, say psychologists and others. It’s responsible, in part, for the rise among young women of drinking, prescription- and illegal drug abuse, and eating disorders such as anorexia, they say….

“The term I use is ‘slut chic,’ “ says Catherine Steiner-Adair, a clinical psychologist at McLean Hospital at Harvard Medical School near Boston. “The sad thing about hearing about Miss USA is that she had a title with real power, and what happened to her happens to many girls and women growing up today. They get this message that, despite everything else that’s wonderful and uniquely ‘you,’ power … is still defined by raunchy behavior that’s disrespectful to yourself. And it’s a false sense of power.”

Yes. Conservative is no longer chic but I’m not sure it ever has been. But celebrity status seems to go to the raunchy and doesn’t do anything to help young girls aspire to anything greater than living in the gutter.

Miss USA “Rehab”

Party girl image. Did Paris Hilton win the title. One might think with all the uproar. I remember a time that this would have cost the winner the title.

Donald Trump gave the 21-year-old blonde and busty Miss USA a second chance. How big of him.Kentucky’s Tara Conner came thisclose to getting dethroned amid reports of her underage partying ways in the Big Apple. (She just turned 21 on Monday.) But after what was probably a heartfelt meeting this morning, the old Trumpster decided to give her a second chance. ‘Cause Trump’s like God in this case. He owns — literally, with NBC — the Miss Universe organization.

“In a tear-choked voice, Conner said, “In no way did I think it would be possible for a second chance to be given to me.”Turning to Trump, she said, “You’ll never know what this means to me, and I swear I will not let you down.”

Trump said Conner would be entering rehab.”

How much more Hollywood of an ending can you get? Too bad for Miss California, though. Had Miss USA gotten the boot, LA native and first runner-up Tamiko Nash would have captured the crown tiara.
I agree… too bad for Miss California. She should have gotten the title. Now the dream is to become a Miss USA and see how long one can party before being forced to enter rehab to save your backside.

Illegal to call some homosexuals are pedophiles

Posted by Conservative Culture On December - 19 - 2006

A councilor in Britain gets the axe for implying that some homosexuals are pedophiles. (HT Stop the ACLU)

“A Tory councillor who suggested gay people were paedophiles was given a conditional discharge today.

Peter Willows, who has been a councillor in the UK’s self-styled gay capital Brighton and Hove for 12 years, made the comment at a mayor-making reception in May. The 75-year-old was asked by the editor of a gay magazine whether he thought a gay councillor was a paedophile, Brighton Magistrates’ Court was told.

“James Ledward asked Willows, ‘Do you think Paul’s a paedophile?”‘ prosecutor David Packer said. “Willows replied to that with, ‘I know you are not Paul, it’s the other gays’.” The barrister said the words “equated gay people with paedophiles”.

Willows, who the court heard has “fixed, traditional views on marriage, church and families”, was found guilty of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress after a day-long trial.

Continued work is being done to normalize homosexual behavior and to distance itself from the dark ‘early’ days of back alley meetings. Stop the ACLU ponders:

And what’s wrong with saying that ALL homosexuals are pedophiles, anyway? Lots of other silly things are said and believed. Some people even believe that Leftism is motivated by compassion!

There is a good letter to the editor about the case here. Excerpt: “Does this mean we are to assign a section of the police force as TAFSS (The anti-free speech stormtroopers)?”. Letters do not stay up for long so I have also reproduced it on POLITICAL CORRECTNESS WATCH.

Archie Comics and the new Britney?

Posted by Conservative Culture On December - 19 - 2006

Just another sign of the changes. New look for Betty and Veronica. Do they look just a bit like Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan? Good role models for the Archie crew? You decide. Maybe not Lohan but the Brittney look just doesn’t seem like it fit.

ARCHIE & RIVERDALE GET A NEW LOOK
With more than 60 years of a certain…shall we say, style behind them, Archie, Betty, Veronica, and the whole Riverdale gang will be getting a new look in 2007, courtesy of artist Steven Butler.

Rather than moving to a manga style, which has worked on Sabrina by Tania del Rio, this change will move the art towards a more contemporary comic book style, more realistic, and less cartoony. The move, an Archie Comics representative told Newsarama, is a continuing experiment and exploration with the characters, showcasing not only their timlessness, but theur adaptability as well.

The first of the “new look” Archie and company will appear in May’s Betty and Veronica Double Digest #151, in “Bad Boy Trouble” written by Melanie J. Morgan. In addition to the look, the stories themselves will change format, switching from short tales to fuller-length stories. As such the digests will contain four stories, spanning issues #151-#154 which will run 25 pages each, when fully told.

Look for more on Archie’s changing look later this week on Newsarama.
