First they call it a culture or corruption and then Dem. State Rep Redfern marries a Republican fundraiser.

State Rep. Chris Redfern, D-Catawba Island, announced Monday he’s engaged to Republican fund-raiser Kim Kahlert.

The two plan to tie the knot next year and say they’ll ask Gov.-elect Ted Strickland to perform the ceremony, if Ohio law permits governors to perform marriages. Ohio’s new governor is an ordained Methodist minister.

But the article is really deceptive. This “Republican” fund raiser seems more like the misguided little girl whom thankfully Redfern and Strickland can bring back to her senses.

“Kim just needs a little direction politically, and I’m providing it,” Redfern jokes.

Kahlert said she regards herself as an independent. She said she became a Republican because of opposition to the estate tax but may be more liberal than Redfern on social issues.

“As far as social issues, I’m as far on the left as I could possibly be,” she said.

Kahlert, an experienced fund-raiser, currently serves as director of development for Equality Ohio, a civil rights organizations which says it envisions an Ohio where “everyone feels at home including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and straight citizens and their families.”

She is even less Republican in principle than Governor Taft is… and that’s saying a lot. She is more of an independent who has really found her roots in the liberal arms of Redfern and Strickland. Perhaps she can give them guidance on the social issue as perhaps they aren’t left enough.
