Like most attempts to use the government to achieve beneficial ends for all of society there end up being problems. As nice as it would be just remember what would happen to both business, the economy, costs and finally the families that have to support this. Someone is paying… and its NOT the government. It is the tax payer to the government and those spending money for goods. How much can they be expected to pay before it all just collapses?

Strickland stopped short of promising universal health care but read on.

COLUMBUS - Gov. Ted Strickland yesterday stopped short of promising that all Ohioans will have health insurance under his administration, but he said making sure all children are covered is doable.

He also called for greater outreach to families who are eligible but have not taken advantage of government-funded coverage under the State Children’s Health Insurance Fund.

Most of the proposals involve the federal government picking up a majority of the tab, 71 percent in the case of the children’s insurance fund, even though Mr. Strickland admitted that, as a congressman, he was wary of state Medicaid waiver requests.

No promise of universal health care? It seems his goal is.

Strickland Wants To Encourage Businesses To Provide Insurance

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio could cut health care costs by making it more attractive for private companies to insure their employees.

It’s one of the ideas being looked at by Ohio Gov. Strickland and his administration.

Strickland said the health care problem is growing and requires a wider search for solutions.

A plan being pushed by lobbyists at the Statehouse would allow small employers and self-employed people easier access to coverage for employees and themselves.

And here.

Strickland wants Medicaid to help poor get insurance
The governor says federal funds should subsidize health coverage for Ohio’s working poor.

Wednesday, January 24, 2007

COLUMBUS — Gov. Ted Strickland hopes to pare down the 1.3 million uninsured Ohioans to 900,000 by taking modest steps in the state’s Medicaid program.

Strickland told a group of health care experts that he will seek federal approval to use Medicaid money to subsidize insurance premiums for 300,000 working poor and will try to enroll another 100,000 eligible kids into Medicaid’s children’s health insurance program.

If he gets the initiatives through it will be a boon to some in the short run. The catch is where will the money come from and how long will it hold out before strangling the Ohio economy? Ahhhh… but don’t worry the Feds will pay for much of it! But where does that money come from? But it comes from a broader base. Yes, but what happens when the Ohio plan becomes the National plan? Then we can expect the wonderful medical care of Canada? Taxin Ted is the rescue but who can survive his help.
