Ohio Students Run Over Muslim Religion

Posted by Conservative Culture On February - 19 - 2007

Ohio Students were run over after an ‘argument’ over religions. Though the ‘religion’ isn’t mentioned it certainly wouldn’t be hard to figure out. Either way…. when words don’t work just press the gas peddle.

A cab driver was arrested Sunday after police said he ran over one of his passengers after they got into a religious argument.

Ibrahim Ahmed, 37, a driver for United Cab, was arrested and charged with assault and attempted homicide for trying to hit two customers early Sunday morning.

“When they exited the vehicle, after having paid the cab driver for their fare, that’s when the cab driver chased them down across the parking lot and ran them down,” Officer John Pepper told WSMV-TV in Nashville.

In Nashville? Sounds like something in the middle east.

National Security Causes Deaths

Posted by Conservative Culture On February - 19 - 2007

In a (not so) stunning article you will find the new take on National Security and securing the Mexican Border. First you find the MSM covering agents firing on fleeing illegals (even though they bring drugs) and now we find that tough borders mean more illegals will die because we made it tough. Don’t believe me… just read.

National attempts to tighten Mexican border security in urban areas has created a “funnel effect,” leaving illegal immigrants with remote, difficult terrain as their only option and resulting in more border deaths, according to UA researchers.

A report compiled by the UA’s Binational Migration Institute found that the number of illegal border-crosser deaths increased six-fold since the 1990s.

“The evidence that we brought forth is the only empirical evidence,” said Raquel Rubio-Goldsmith, coordinator of the Binational Migration Institute. “This coincides with an increase in enforcement of immigration law ? Funneling people through more dangerous places does not mean that less people are going to cross.”

The report, which was published in October, examined Pima County morgue records and found that from 1990 to 1999, there were 125 border-crosser deaths, compared with 802 deaths from 2000-2005, Rubio-Goldsmith said.

Rubio-Goldsmith hopes the massive increase in deaths will prompt re-evaluation on how the federal government deals with enforcing border strategies, she said.

Ohio Gov Hesitates On Death Penalty

Posted by Conservative Culture On February - 19 - 2007

He says he supports the death penalty. However he has frequently hesitated to use that power putting into question whether he will now tow the Dem line of death penalty cases. I suspect that his pro-gun stance will suffer a similar end when the time comes.

COLUMBUS — In one of the nation’s busiest death penalty states, letters to Gov. Ted Strickland are running almost 5 to 1 in favor of ending capital punishment or temporarily stopping it to study the system.  Strickland supports the death penalty, but almost immediately after taking office, he delayed the executions of three condemned killers while he reviewed their cases….  An Associated Press review of correspondence Strickland received since his election and running through Feb. 15 found 125 letters or e-mails from death penalty opponents.  That number does not include letters asking for specific killers to be freed without reference to the writer’s position on the death penalty….  Please end the death penalty in Ohio,” Gerald and Andrea Breen of Cincinnati said in a handwritten note on Jan. 20.  “I firmly believe that human life is given by God as sacred and that only He has jurisdiction over each person’s life and death,” wrote Sister Rose Clement Stalter of Columbus, a nun with the Dominican Sisters and one of several nuns who wrote Strickland opposing capital punishment.

…“Please don’t mess with the death penalty,” Gene Metz, a warehouse clerk in Harrison, challenged Strickland in a Jan. 28 e-mail….  That opponents’ figure does not include about three dozen letters specifically urging the execution of individual inmates, 27 of them from relatives and friends of Tami Engstrom, murdered by Kenneth Biros in 1991.  Strickland, the first Democrat elected governor in Ohio in 20 years, indicated shortly after being sworn in last month that he was worried about having enough time to review the case files for upcoming executions.  On Jan. 19 he officially delayed the executions of Biros and two other inmates.  Both supporters and opponents of capital punishment interpreted Strickland’s actions as the possible first step toward a moratorium….  Ohio executed five people last year, second highest in the country after Texas with 24.  From 2002 through 2006 Ohio executed 22 people, a tie for third with North Carolina and behind only Texas and Oklahoma.  After Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine took office last year, his office received hundreds of letters regarding the first execution he oversaw in April 2006.  Spokesman Kevin Hall attributed the unusually high number to Kaine’s well-known personal opposition to the death penalty.  Death penalty opponents “in particular had some expectation that they might have more of an impact by making contact,” said Hall, who also worked for Kaine’s predecessor, Gov. Mark Warner.  But Kaine, a Democrat, also said he would uphold the law and he let that execution go on, along with three of four other cases that have come before him.  In Florida, newly elected Gov. Charlie Crist, a Republican and death penalty supporter, has received only 22 letters and e-mails split evenly between capital punishment backers and opponents.

…The state has a temporary moratorium on executions while a commission studies whether changes are needed in the way the state carries out the death penalty.  Bush created the commission after December’s botched execution of Angel Nieves Diaz, who survived for more than a half hour after being given two doses of the lethal injection drugs.

…Some of the most heartfelt letters Strickland received came from relatives of Engstrom, a 22-year-old woman who was stabbed 91 times by Biros on Feb. 7, 1991 in Trumbull County, then strangled and dismembered.  “Sorry for Kenneth Biros I will never be,” Engstrom’s father, James Heiss, wrote in a December letter.  “I think he has been kept alive way beyond the years he deserves as my Tami was snuffed out of her life at such a young age and was not given a choice on living or dying.”

Dem Dann(y) Boy Likes Cars

Posted by Conservative Culture On February - 19 - 2007

Yes. Democrats sweep into Ohio because of Taft and his questionable behavior and connection. Dems  promise to be more ethical. What do we really get. Things that will make Taft look like the smartest man on earth. Compare Dem Attorney General of Ohio to Republican Auditor of Ohio Mary Taylor.

Never let it be forgotten that politicians have egos that need to be fed. The higher you go, the bigger they get. A recent demonstration of this comes from Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann, who used more than $40,000 of state taxpayer money to make sure he rides around the state in style. His overdoing it is all the more striking when compared to the cars other statewide officeholders have selected — or what his predecessor traveled in.

Dann’s office bought a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban for the attorney general, The Columbus Dispatch reported last week. Ohioans can rest assured knowing the state’s lawyer is riding in comfort in his $40,373.98 ego boost, complete with leather seats, six-CD changer and dual-zone climate control. That last touch is probably important, as Dann’s chief of policy and administration, Edgar Simpson, told the Dispatch the AG, who spends a lot of time on the road, takes along staff members….

Of course, the Dann-mobile  gets 20 miles to the gallon on the highway, 15 in the city. That was less-than-prudent spending and planning.

At least Dann is paying the $12.95 monthly fee for his XM satellite radio out of his own pocket. Charging Ohio taxpayers that $155 every year would just be obscene, after all.

We’re not suggesting Dann drive around in a 2003 Mercury Sable worth about $8,700, as the Dispatch reported former Republican Attorney General Jim Petro did. We’re not even suggesting Dann forgo the driver that will cost taxpayers about $49,000 a year, as Petro did during his last six months in office.

Then there is…

Auditor Mary Taylor will use the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee former Auditor Betty Montgomery used.

Ohioans are tired of paying taxes to satisfy the egos of those who hold office. Brunner, Cordray and Taylor seem to understand that. Perhaps someone could explain it to the attorney general.

Hat tip to the Lima News. Not bad. I expect more of this behavior will come out if people are watching. And I think that they should.

Congressman Jordan holds fast in Congress

Posted by Conservative Culture On February - 19 - 2007

With the opposition strong in Washington Jordan continues to be concerned about the Ohio economy and families. The minimum wage increase made a step closer to being law. The House bill didn’t have enough tax relief for businesses either. Jordan continues to be keenly aware of how hard this bill will be on Ohio already hurting from higher taxes. Just consider the minimum wage another tax on business… which being passed on will be a tax on families.

Democrats moved a step closer to pushing a minimum-wage increase through Congress on Friday when the House overwhelmingly approved small-business tax cuts to help employers offset the cost of higher wages.

Voting 360-45, the House approved the package demanded by Republicans. Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Urbana, was the only member of Ohio’s delegation to vote against the bill.

It hurts lower entry opportunities. It hurts those who just got their yearly job evaluations and pay raises for good job performances. Hey.. you worked hard and got that raise and make $8.00 to $!0.00 per hour. Great. Now thanks to the dems you aren’t nearly 3-5 dollars over minimum wage… you are now going to be living on barely over minimum wage. That my folks is how it works… will be perceived. Two years from now the MSM will be reporting how under the Bush presidency worker income has actually fallen dramatically and that many are barely over the poverty level of minimum wage.

At least Jordan understands that and can muster the courage to vote his conscience.
