Yes. Democrats sweep into Ohio because of Taft and his questionable behavior and connection. Dems promise to be more ethical. What do we really get. Things that will make Taft look like the smartest man on earth. Compare Dem Attorney General of Ohio to Republican Auditor of Ohio Mary Taylor.
Never let it be forgotten that politicians have egos that need to be fed. The higher you go, the bigger they get. A recent demonstration of this comes from Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann, who used more than $40,000 of state taxpayer money to make sure he rides around the state in style. His overdoing it is all the more striking when compared to the cars other statewide officeholders have selected — or what his predecessor traveled in.
Dann’s office bought a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban for the attorney general, The Columbus Dispatch reported last week. Ohioans can rest assured knowing the state’s lawyer is riding in comfort in his $40,373.98 ego boost, complete with leather seats, six-CD changer and dual-zone climate control. That last touch is probably important, as Dann’s chief of policy and administration, Edgar Simpson, told the Dispatch the AG, who spends a lot of time on the road, takes along staff members….
Of course, the Dann-mobile gets 20 miles to the gallon on the highway, 15 in the city. That was less-than-prudent spending and planning.
At least Dann is paying the $12.95 monthly fee for his XM satellite radio out of his own pocket. Charging Ohio taxpayers that $155 every year would just be obscene, after all.
We’re not suggesting Dann drive around in a 2003 Mercury Sable worth about $8,700, as the Dispatch reported former Republican Attorney General Jim Petro did. We’re not even suggesting Dann forgo the driver that will cost taxpayers about $49,000 a year, as Petro did during his last six months in office.
Then there is…
Auditor Mary Taylor will use the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee former Auditor Betty Montgomery used.
Ohioans are tired of paying taxes to satisfy the egos of those who hold office. Brunner, Cordray and Taylor seem to understand that. Perhaps someone could explain it to the attorney general.
Hat tip to the Lima News. Not bad. I expect more of this behavior will come out if people are watching. And I think that they should.
