Presbyterian Gun Control and Proud of it

Posted by Conservative Culture On February - 21 - 2007

The Presbyterian USA church is so proud of their support of gun control that they posted it on a website. It is a shame they are as concerned about the control of violent offenders in our society. Perhaps they would like to revise the Bible and take the sword from the hand of the authorities as well.

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has a thirty year history of support for gun control legislation. Beginning in the late 1960’s, in response to the assassinations of public leaders, the General Assembly called for “. . . control [of] the sale and possession of fire arms of all kinds.”1 In 1976, this statement was re-affirmed, but also specifically worded to “. . .not cover shotguns and rifles used legitimately by sportsmen. . .”.2 In 1988, these and other statements supporting gun control were again reaffirmed.

Support[ing] gun control at federal, state, and local levels as the most effective response to the present crisis of gun violence. . .

Call[ing] upon the United States government to establish meaningful and effective federal legislation to regulate the importation, manufacture, sale, and possession of guns and ammunition by the general public. Such legislation should include provisions for the registration and licensing of gun purchasers and owners, appropriate background investigations and waiting periods prior to gun purchase, and regulation of subsequent sale.

Urg[ing] the enactment of similar state and local laws, should such federal legislation be delayed.

Call[ing] upon government agencies at all levels to provide significant assistance to victims of gun violence and their families.3

Want to defend yourself? You can’t. Just let them put 2 to your chest and  1 to your head.

Rev. Brockway recognizes that the woman who is accosted in the park may not think of her violator as her neighbor, or that his “safety is of immediate concern”–but, Brockway preaches, “Criminals are members of the larger community no less than are others. As such, they are our neighbors or, as Jesus put it, our brothers. . . . [Though violent criminals act wrongfully,] it is equally wrong for the victim to kill the robber or burglar, save in those extremely rare circumstances when the unambiguous alternative is one own`s death.”3

There are many reasons for true Christian Conservatives to leave this organization or at least move to replace the current leadership. They have joined the liberals and used that basic philosophy to undermine both the Bible and now the US Constitution. Shame on them… but you already knew that.

Church Tackle Gunman in Church

Posted by Conservative Culture On February - 21 - 2007

Just another reason carry and conceal is a vital part of American safety.

By law the church is the only place that requires no posting of “no gun” signs. It’s illegal to carry a gun into a church. It goes without saying the robbery is also illegal. The point? Only criminals carry weapons into places that law abiding citizens are forbidden to bring weapons to. The advantage is always to the criminal.
Of course the church can take action to allow carry conceal but if they don’t then one who brings in a concealed weapon they have a permit for is breaking the law. What the church did was brave and I am glad to see it went well. But wouldn’t it have been better for a church to allow carry and conceal weapons by law abiding citizens? Why should the crooks be given the upper hand? HT Bizzy Blog

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Parishioners tackled a gunman suspected of snatching purses from church pews during Mass, the pastor and police said.

One man suffered lacerations to his head and face during the struggle at Christ the King Catholic Church on Sunday morning, police said.

Wendell K. Hollingsworth, 43, Celeste M. Smith, 51, were arrested and each charged with aggravated robbery at the church, police said. They were being held in the Franklin County jail Monday, awaiting bond.

The pair walked into the service and grabbed purses as Hollingsworth displayed a handgun and said, “This is a robbery,’’ police said.

Hollingsworth was tackled as parishioners called police on cell phones. Smith was arrested outside the church, police said.

“Our parishioners are not about to let anyone defile their church,’’ said the Rev. Michael Lumpe.

Congressman Ted Poe on Jailed Agents

Posted by Conservative Culture On February - 21 - 2007

Congressman Poe has been a champion of the jailed border agents. There are several things about the case which trouble him deeply having been a past prosecutor.

But the lawmaker, in his second term, said his stance stems directly from his experiences on the bench and at the prosecution table.

“I know the power of the prosecution and how powerful they are,” said Poe, who argues that the Justice Department went to extraordinary lengths to prosecute ex-agents Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos for wounding the drug trafficker in a 2005 border altercation.

Though the two men were duly convicted in a jury trial in El Paso, Poe contends the game was rigged against the defendants because of “back-room deals” given by the prosecution to get the trafficker and other involved Border Patrol agents to testify. He also questions whether information was withheld from the jury.

And Poe is uneasy about what he views as Mexican interference into the case, citing letters written by Mexican consular officials seeking prosecution.

Asked whether he ever worries that he may be defending rogue officers, which is what prosecutors insist Ramos and Compean were, Poe expresses no uncertainty.

They are not rogue border agents,” he said.

But Poe also has no patience with fellow conservatives whose rhetoric has soared to broach the possibility of impeachment of Bush if either of the ex-agents is killed in prison. Ramos was attacked by six inmates at his Mississippi prison recently after they saw his case air on TV.

“That’s an absurd answer,” Poe said of the impeachment talk.

I am equally troubled about some of the information that has come out about the case. However, I also agree about impeachment talk is extreme. Still, I bet there is more information that still isn’t out to the public. Someone knows more than we are being told and I think it should be released.
