New York To Push Same Sex Marriage

Posted by Conservative Culture On April - 23 - 2007

One by one they begin to fall. Fall into line that is. Now Spitzer will begin the battle for New York. Don’t expect it to be entirely easy… but then again I don’t think the push will fail either. It just depends on if enough in upstate New York speak up.

Albany, NY (AHN) - Governor Eliot Spitzer will reportedly fulfill a campaign promise and introduce legislation legalizing same-sex marriage in New York.

According to a spokeswoman for the Governor, Christine Anderson, tells the New York Times that, “The governor made a commitment to advance a program bill, and he will fulfill that commitment during this legislative session.”

Despite the fact that Governor Spitzer failed to mention the issue during his State of the State speech in January, Spitzer has long been a proponent of same-sex marriage, similar to what Massachusetts has passed.

After legalizing same-sex marriages in 2003, Massachusetts has registered over 8,000 couples under the new right.

If the New GOP Ticket Had Won - Mary Taylor

Posted by Conservative Culture On April - 23 - 2007

This is what we would have gotten across the board in general from the new slate of GOP office holders. Now Mary Taylor is the lone bright star and she is shinning. Never doubted it for a moment. HT to Bizzy Blog.

State Auditor Mary Taylor is championing a measure that would spare the state another scandal like the one that rocked the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation system.

She wants to gather the state’s internal auditors, now spread throughout individual agencies, in the state’s budget office. A chief internal auditor would direct them, while an independent committee would oversee the operation. The committee would include both the state budget director and appointees of the House speaker and the Senate president.

Taylor’s proposal would centralize a crucial government function and add a needed layer of public oversight. After all, as Taylor noted in a press conference last week, internal auditors raised concerns about BWC practices years before the scandal broke. Under her proposed structure, agency leaders could not easily quash or ignore such warnings.

Sen. Bob Spada and Rep. Carol-Ann Schindel are sponsoring the plan in the General Assembly. Gov. Ted Strickland says he wants to review the specifics but supports the concept. No single law can eliminate corruption, but this one at least would make it harder to pull off.

Strickland: End Ohio’s Athpartaid Now

Posted by Conservative Culture On April - 23 - 2007

If this was a Republican in office accusations of racism would be offered up. Yet the Rev. Strickland is given a pass as Ohio’s Governor. Why? He is taking away parent’s choice in favor of Teacher Union’s desires to be in control. It truly is a sad day that Strickland wants to keep black children in under performing schools while whites often have greater freedom to pull their children for private schools. From Bizzy Blog’s catch from the Washington Times.

Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland has some explaining to do. He plans to gut the state’s school-voucher program, ending a two-year statewide experiment building upon 12 years of vouchers in the city of Cleveland.

….. How insulting. The savings: $13 million, in a two-year budget totalling (sic) $52 billion.

The governor should explain why students who happen to live in Akron, Cincinnati, Columbus or Dayton do not deserve the same opportunities as those in Cleveland. They are allowed to continue to participate in the state’s 12-year-old voucher program.

The farce of the “not enough money” line is belied by the size and scope of spending, none of which unduly punishes Mr. Strickland’s allies or deals similar death blows to programs used by groups who vote. Take teachers’ unions. This budget may not be a dream for those union bosses, but it nevertheless contains several hundred million more dollars for public schools — slated to receive a 3 percent annual budget increase. Or seniors. The budget funds burgeoning Medicaid costs. Seniors vote, remember.

Shooter Did NOT Buy Ammon on E-BAY!

Posted by Conservative Culture On April - 23 - 2007

They went after E-Bay with evil intent. Crying “See anyone can get guns and ammo on e-bay”. Not true.

eBay says shooter did not buy ammunition on eBayThe company said Cho Seung-Hui, who also killed himself, did in recent months buy empty ammunition clips and a gun holster on eBay. He also sold other items including books and tickets to sporting events.

“Empty ammunition clips and gun holsters are unregulated items that can be legally bought and sold on eBay as well as in retail stores across the US. However, we are saddened that Mr. Cho purchased on eBay any item that may be linked with his actions last week,” the company said in a statement.

This should Seal Hillary’s Bid to Win

Posted by Conservative Culture On April - 23 - 2007

From the King’s Side comes information that some might think would be detrimental. In Ohio there was a tax evasion issue and legal residency issue (where did Strickland really live when he ran for office). but it didn’t stick and he won overwhelmingly. I expect that this won’t gain traction. In fact it may just highten her popularity. (Photo Credit: King’s Side)

Court brief alleges crime by Hillary
Cites federal code & possible 5-year prison sentence

Posted: January 12, 2007
By Art Moore WorldNetDaily.com

A brief filed yesterday in a civil fraud case alleges Sen. Hillary Clinton engaged in criminal misconduct, citing a violation of federal code that carries a possible five-year prison sentence.

Business mogul Peter Franklin Paul, who claims he was the largest contributor to Clinton’s 2000 campaign, alleges the New York Democrat solicited and accepted his illegal contribution of more than $1 million and falsified statements to the Federal Election Commission.

Paul’s attorney, Colette Wilson of the U.S. Justice Foundation, argues in the brief filed with the California Court of Appeal that Sen. Clinton’s actions violated Title 2 section 437 of the U.S. federal code, which states: “Any person who knowingly and willfully commits a violation of any provision of this act which involves the making, receiving, or reporting of any contribution, donation, or expenditure aggregating $25,000 or more during a calendar year shall be fined under Title 18, or imprisoned for not more than 5 years, or both.”
