New York To Push Same Sex Marriage
April 23, 2007 |
One by one they begin to fall. Fall into line that is. Now Spitzer will begin the battle for New York. Don’t expect it to be entirely easy… but then again I don’t think the push will fail either. It just depends on if enough in upstate New York speak up.
Albany, NY (AHN) - Governor Eliot Spitzer will reportedly fulfill a campaign promise and introduce legislation legalizing same-sex marriage in New York.
According to a spokeswoman for the Governor, Christine Anderson, tells the New York Times that, “The governor made a commitment to advance a program bill, and he will fulfill that commitment during this legislative session.”
Despite the fact that Governor Spitzer failed to mention the issue during his State of the State speech in January, Spitzer has long been a proponent of same-sex marriage, similar to what Massachusetts has passed.
After legalizing same-sex marriages in 2003, Massachusetts has registered over 8,000 couples under the new right.
