Rudy is finally honest
I don’t agree with his position. I didn’t believe his repositioning on the issue. So some kudos for at least choosing to be open and honest about his real position. A moderate to liberal Republican that tells his position is better than one that hides it only to govern from the left side of the red spectrum. So Rudy goes back to what he said in 1999.
“I’m pro-choice. I’m pro-gay rights,†Giuliani said. He was then asked whether he supports a ban on what critics call partial-birth abortions. “No, I have not supported that, and I don’t see my position on that changing,†he responded. Source: CNN.com, “Inside Politics†Dec 2, 1999
The SFGate reports it this way…
Giuliani called abortion “morally wrong” but said he nonetheless favors a woman’s right to choose. “I am open to seeking ways of limiting abortions, and I am open to decreasing abortions,” he told an audience at Houston Baptist University. “But I believe you have to respect their (women’s) viewpoint and give them a level of choice. I would grant women the right to make that choice.”
His position on Guns?
I do not think the government should cut off the right to bear arms. My position for many years has been that just as a motorist must have a license, a gun owner should be required to have one as well. Anyone wanting to own a gun should have to pass a written exam that shows that they know how to use a gun, that they’re intelligent enough and responsible enough to handle a gun. Should both handgun and rifle owners be licensed…we’re talking about all dangerous weapons. Source: Boston Globe, p. A4 Mar 21, 2000
Since we are talking about dangerous weapons how about such requirements for voting. You do know that political power can be dangerous and we are voting for a man who can blow up over half the world. Should we require such things for voters? (Note: I do agree in principle that all gun owners need to be familiar with their guns and know how to handle and shoot them…. but you get my point.)
Let me leave you with Church and State’s stinging rebuke You draw your own conclusions.
This should speak volumes to Giuliani, if he values his religion at all. But apparently he values Catholocism like Edwards does Christianity.
