Faith, Politics and the no Conviction Crowd

Posted by Conservative Culture On July - 26 - 2007

Everyone keeps talking about how people should take religion out of politics. Certainly I can understand the idea at a certain level. Yet at the core is the concept that one should, or even could, keep one’s core life values out of politics. Isn’t that what has gotten this nation into all personal, corporate and politic scandals? Certain Jefferson was keeping his religion (if he had any) when it came to the cold hard cash. Perhaps one might easily argue that William Jefferson Clinton was keeping his personal religion out of the oval office while dealing in cigars with an intern. Of course the problem isn’t on just one side of the isle. How about the business sector and ENRON?

The concept that moral values and choices have no place in the public realm is only setting up a complete core moral meltdown in the nation at every level… from the family to business to politics.

Even Edwards seems to be conflicted between his religion’s core values and the new sanitized public a-morality.

Edwards said he feels “enormous conflict” as he wrestles with his religious faith and his feelings about gay marriage, which he does not support.

The question came from a black minister who noted religion was used to justify slavery and segregation and to deny women the right to vote, then said, “Why is it still acceptable to use religion to deny gay Americans their full and equal rights?”

It’s like pulling the underpinnings out of any document that is supposedly authoritative in one’s life. Remove the core values from politicians lives (if they still hold to any) and what do you have? Scandal, corruption and series of serious ills not easily removed or solved. Much like the gun debate (or other similar debates)… if can reduce all things to a populist democracy and remove both the moral underpinnings of justice and also in turn remove the relevance and meaning of the Constitution you leave room for one thing… Despotism and imperialism. Except it won’t be coming from the Conservatives as some seem to be portraying in recent movies/shows… it will come from the left leaning socialists who are vying for the Presidential nomination and victory in 08.

Local Refinary’s Fire Slows Production

Posted by Conservative Culture On July - 26 - 2007

It isn’t expected to impact the nation but potentially the local area. A fire has limited the capacity for now to 25% of production capacity.

Impact of refinery shutdown to be felt locally with little impact nationally, expert says

LIMA — The shutdown of production at the Husky Energy Lima Refinery will have an impact. A local expert, however, said the impact’s reach will be largely local and regional.

The Lima plant’s shutdown won’t cause gas prices nationally to shoot up, said Anas Alhajji, professor of economics at Ohio Northern University. It would take a series of events to boost prices across the country. There will be a local and regional impact, he said.

Lima City Council To Push Casion Ballot Issue

Posted by Conservative Culture On July - 26 - 2007

The Lima News covered the news about the City Council’s decision to push for a ballot issue in November on the agreement to give land away for a potential “future” casino. What the isn’t readily known is that the ballot issue came just seconds before a rather bland meeting had nearly ended. It appears that the administration just can’t keep its eyes off the potential easy money they think lies at the end of the rainbow as stated in this article. Either way the last minute announcement only reveals the tough fight ahead to reach their field of dreams.

Glenn accused the administration of “playing games” with the agreement and providing it at the last minute. He also said some councilors were privy to its contents while others were not.

An emotional and angered Potts said he wouldn’t stand for untrue accusations.

It appears that the Berger Administration either doesn’t have the support on the Council to push it through or doesn’t want the backlash of pushing it through. Either way there will be several meetings and the opportunity for the public to give it’s input prior to the City asking voters to give away their land to a Federal Trust in hopes that a future casino may be built. Either way… once the land is given over it appears that the land will not be able to be regained by the city even if the casino is never built.

Perhaps the City might receive some trinkets in case the casino never materializes. Can anyone say “Lima’s great land give away?”
