The Lima News covered the news about the City Council’s decision to push for a ballot issue in November on the agreement to give land away for a potential “future” casino. What the isn’t readily known is that the ballot issue came just seconds before a rather bland meeting had nearly ended. It appears that the administration just can’t keep its eyes off the potential easy money they think lies at the end of the rainbow as stated in this article. Either way the last minute announcement only reveals the tough fight ahead to reach their field of dreams.

Glenn accused the administration of “playing games” with the agreement and providing it at the last minute. He also said some councilors were privy to its contents while others were not.

An emotional and angered Potts said he wouldn’t stand for untrue accusations.

It appears that the Berger Administration either doesn’t have the support on the Council to push it through or doesn’t want the backlash of pushing it through. Either way there will be several meetings and the opportunity for the public to give it’s input prior to the City asking voters to give away their land to a Federal Trust in hopes that a future casino may be built. Either way… once the land is given over it appears that the land will not be able to be regained by the city even if the casino is never built.

Perhaps the City might receive some trinkets in case the casino never materializes. Can anyone say “Lima’s great land give away?”
