One Ohio Reverand’s Snow Job on the Jihad Problem

You cannot address the issue of religion and tolerance without defining the different categories involved. America is to be the melting pot of the world. It is where people of all religions and ethnic backgrounds come and become a part of the America Culture. They learn the language and work hard to be a part of the greatest nation on earth.
When it comes to Muslims and Jihad you cannot simply say what this Reverend has said.
Dr. Asma Mobin-Uddin is a woman I respect and trust (Forum column, July 16). It is important for all to become informed about religions other than our own. The Islamic faith teaches peace and respect for humanity.
We cannot afford to be ignorant any longer. I once attended a workshop where I learned that the basic profile of a bomber is Spanish speaking, not a Muslim. A terrorist is a terrorist, no matter his cultural background.
Let us embrace people who are different from us and not shun them. Let us be grace-filled people with welcoming arms. This is what our country is founded upon.
THE REV. REBECCA TOLLEFSON
It is true. We cannot be ignorant any longer. A terrorist is a terrorist. All such people regardless of religion must turn away from their crimes. There may be some Muslims that are non-violent but no one should be so naive as to call for all Americans to embrace blindly a world movement that calls for the destruction of Christians and other infidels around the world. The Rev. ( I use the term loosely) Tollefson should recant her statement and make her call toward the perpetrators of violence and not their victims.
