So will the citizens who might have had to pursue legal action to have him removed. After 3 DUI’s this year and a defiant attitude about running as a write-in could have spelled more headaches for the North Western Ohio town. The good news? He will have less stress with his job and may give up drinking… or…. he now has more time to drink.

COLUMBUS GROVE —Mayor Michael Bogart submitted his written resignation Tuesday, effective immediately, ending a term that was loaded with controversy as the village’s top elected official.

Mark Kohls, president of the Village Council, said the mayor’s actions are a relief to the town.

Kohls said he received Bogart’s two-sentence letter of resignation Tuesday and it was written before the 5 p.m. deadline the council set for Bogart.

The village’s police chief, Charles Huff, delivered the letter to Kohls from the Putnam County Jail later Tuesday evening, ending tensions Tuesday the mayor would not resign and the town would have to take him to court.

Bogart reportedly contacted the village’s attorney, Joseph Schroeder, for assistance writing the letter.

Schroeder could not be reached for comment Tuesday evening.

Bogart was asked to resign Monday evening after his third alcohol-related arrest this year. The Council decided on the matter unanimously and said if he did not resign, the council would begin legal proceedings to have him removed.
