The Boring Made Dull says it well.
I thought that there was nothing we could do to stem the tide of illegals. Isn’t that what Kennedy, Bush, and others were telling us?
Apparently, that’s false. The point of the article is, of course, to do the work of blurring the distinction between legal and illegal immigrants as much as possible. You know, those poor who are only here to do the work that Americans just won’t do.
The inescapable conclusion, however, is that pressure on employers and sanctions will likely have the effect of generating some level of self-deportation.
While the stories are heart wrenching it doesn’t negate the fact that they are here illegally. From the Miami Herald.
Miguel Raimundo, a Guatemalan and Homestead day laborer, said the government crackdown on illegal immigration — which has included an intensified national campaign of immigration raids for people with outstanding deportation orders — has left employers scared to hire migrant workers.
”They say they’ll be fined if they get caught using immigrants without papers, so they don’t hire us anymore,” said Raimundo, 35.
It appears that just like the new progress in Iraq that the pressure is beginning to affect the illegal tide. As long as it doesn’t relent the flow across the border might become a small trickle. Then we can secure the border… then begin making it easier to become a legal immigrant. I’m sure fixes are needed because after it is the federal government.
