Guard Troop Withdrawl on the Border

Posted by Conservative Culture On September - 22 - 2007

The heaviest withdrawls are happening now. The idea is that new Border Agent hires will be their replacements. Since the government is in charge I wonder how many years it will take to build the entire fence. Or does that mean it won’t ever be completed.

National Guard troops stationed along California’s border with Mexico are being scaled back, as are Guard troops elsewhere along the southern border.

By the end of next month, only about 600 troops – roughly half the number deployed to the California-Mexico border earlier this year – will be left assisting the Border Patrol with air and land surveillance, engineering and other non-law enforcement duties in the agency’s San Diego and El Centro sectors.

Guard troops have been leaving gradually since February, but the heaviest departures began last month, a National Guard spokeswoman in San Diego said yesterday.

SD Mayor Suddently Changes Course On Gay Marriage

Posted by Conservative Culture On September - 22 - 2007

Read this carefully in the last paragraph. This has now become an argument not of reason but of emotion. This will be the type of argument that will leave most powerless to oppose it. It will also be used to label (potentially) Christians who oppose gay marriage to be called unloving and even hateful. Nice lead in towards future “hate crimes” if they won’t perform marriages. It may take time but it’s coming unless something dramatically changes the landscape of the discussion.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Mayor Jerry Sanders abruptly reversed his public opposition to marriage for same-sex partners and revealed that his adult daughter is a lesbian.

Sanders on Wednesday signed a City Council resolution supporting a challenge to California’s gay marriage ban. He previously promised to veto it.

The Republican mayor said he could no longer back the position he took during his election campaign two years ago, when he said he favored civil unions but not full marriage rights for homosexual couples.

He fought back tears as he said he wanted his adult daughter, Lisa, and other gay people he knows to have their relationships protected equally under state laws.

“In the end, I could not look any of them in the face and tell them that their relationships — their very lives — were any less meaningful than the marriage that I share with my wife Rana,” Sanders said.
