Gay Man Charged With A Hate Crime

Hate crimes in my book are just one sign of how stupid we have become as a nation. What does it matter what one thinks while committing a vicious predatory crime. If we had justice equally applied that is enough. Hate Crimes makes justice unequal and it depends on a special class of people whether one is charged or not. With that said… here is the first time a “gay” man has been charged with a “hate” crime that I am aware of. Just be advised that if the gay man hated straights and killed someone he wouldn’t have been charged with “hate” crime.
The story is one we covered when the news broke. In fact one of the suspects was acquitted of felony murder but charged with manslaughter and a hate crime. This suspect happens to also be gay. Here is the story.
[GayCity] A jury quickly acquitted one defendant of felony murder in the Michael J. Sandy homicide, but convicted him on manslaughter and attempted robbery as hate crimes in the 2006 killing.
“He didn’t actually do it himself,” said Jason Lenitsky, 29, the foreman in the John Fox jury, outside Brooklyn’s criminal court. “Were we about to send somebody away for life when he was not the direct cause of it?”
The jury of seven men and five women began deliberating early in the afternoon on October 4 and at 4:12 pm on October 5 they signaled Jill Konviser, the judge in the case, that they had reached a verdict.
On October 8 last year, Fox, 20, along with Anthony Fortunato, 21, and Gary Timmins, 17, lured Sandy into agreeing to a supposed sexual encounter after discussions in an Internet gay chatroom. The three were joined by Ilya Shurov, 21, before they met Sandy.
