Preachers Take Pledge Not to Cheat

Too many short circuits in their sermons? So it appears so many have simply garnered other material as their own and deprived their congregations of good prep time in the word.  Christians ought to be a people of the word and able to rightly handle it themselves. That includes the Ministers and the entire congregation. This is a good step. It is if it actually happens. Or lots o f

[Christian Post] More than 1,500 pastors across the country and around the globe have pledged not to short circuit their sermons with someone else’s.

In a new campaign aimed at putting the centrality of the Bible back into a preacher’s message, “The Preacher’s Pledge,” introduced by SermonCentral.com, has been signed by pastors from over 50 nations so far.

“We introduced The Pledge because we think preachers must engage the Bible in their sermon preparation and not simply short circuit the process with someone else’s study,” says Ron Forseth, general editor for SermonCentral.com. “Our site is a valuable supplement but not the primary source for a sermon. God’s Word is.”

The following pledge sounds nice but shouldn’t this already be happening?

Preachers who take the pledge make a commitment to the following:

I will make the Bible my primary resource in sermon preparation and preaching.
• I may use other resources such as commentaries and web sites to enhance, not replace, my personal interaction with Scripture.
As I study I will strive to accurately understand and honestly apply God’s Word, allowing Him to uniquely proclaim His truth in a relevant way through me.

Obviously it is a major problem. Perhaps every congregation could get a disclaimer prior to the message.

I agree preachers should be in the Word more and not doing generic sermons from the internet. My husband was a pastor for 13 years we were married for 32 with 2 children and 3 grandchildren. September of 2007 he had to resign as he was having an affair and still is with a lady in our church who also was a singer in our southern gospel group. She divorced her husband of 12 years in June (which was her second husband) and my husband left in September. He says there is nothing wrong with having a relationship with someone else. The sad thing is there is churches who still have this group in their church, they do not sing in our area as they know the truth they have been living together. She supports him, bought him a new SUV,. I know that Satan is alive and well, the thing that i don’t understand is why pastors don’t guard their pulpits more and find out who is coming to their church and check references. My husband has told lie after lie, he tells the preachers that is not true but lets just say they have the same address. He says that Jesus stayed at Mary’s house that is his excuse. They call each other honey, and I heard a message she left for him 2 weeks after he left along with 2 other women in the church and our 30 year old daughter. He also has a website which he admits that he is in a relationship and that was before I ever filed for a divorce. It amazes me that they have not fear of GOD. Why are these issues never addressed. I have been blessed my church has supported me and truly been a blessing to me during this time. I know God is still in control and there is nothing that could ever seperat me from Him. He is much bigger than this . i was the wife supported her husband to quit his teaching job to do the ministry as he said it was to hard to do both. I knew God would take care of us, and I also have a good job. I never dreamed I was creating the devils workshop. Blessed, eyvonne
