Church Shooting Update - Carry Conseal Permit Holder Saves Lives
December 11, 2007 |
Welcome to our carry conceal permit holder hero award. I often get frustrated by hearing law enforcement officers in Ohio deride permit holders. It seems as if too many officers fear approaching a carry conceal permit holder’s car more than other cars. They say “you never know if they are going to have a bad day.” Hell, you never know whose going to have a bad day including the officers. But the spirit of the carry conceal holders permit is demonstrated by this 42 yr old lady Jeanne Assam.
She is a member of the New Life Church in Colorado Springs and when she heard the shots ran into the building and took out the gunman. She literally saved hundreds if not more lives by her actions. Those who carry guns (either permit holders or officers) are out there because there are bad people wanting to do things like this. Thankfully there was a permit holder close enough.
Which raises the question, why is it that churches are first designated gun free zones (Fire Free Zones in my book)? This should be reconsidered and make them the same as any other place… you have to post to exclude them. Or do we have to wait for something like this to happen in Ohio. Oh… I forgot. It already has.
Well, here is to our hero of the day… Thank you.
[Daily Mail] The first of Sunday’s shootings came at Youth With a Mission, a training centre for missionaries in the Denver suburb of Arvada. Witnesses said the gunman asked to spend the night there and opened fire with a handgun when he was turned down, killing two people.
Twelve hours later, Ms Assam was forced to draw her gun. She said: “I identified myself, I engaged him and then I took him down. I didn’t run away. I didn’t think for a minute to run away. I knew I was the one given the assignment to stop this thing.
“It seemed like it was me, the gunman and God,” said Ms Assam, who has a concealed weapons permit and a law enforcement background. She added that she prayed for the Holy Spirit to guide her and that her hands never shook.
The pastor, Brady Boyd, credited her with preventing more bloodshed. “There could have been a great loss of life, and she probably saved over 100 lives,” said Mr Boyd.
He estimated that 40 rounds had been fired inside the church, leaving what looked like a “war scene”.
