After a sharp disagreement with AG Brunner, Brunner returned the favor with a big boot to Keith Cunningham. Some wondered if the Board of Elections Director for Allen County would remain as the Director. This was settled by a 4-0 vote to retain Cunningham as the director. It was possible that this could have gone as a 2-2 vote and thrown to Brunner who might have pulled out her ax to finish him off. Though Cunningham is in place it is possible that Brunner might still excert her authority and pull the plug.
Brunner’s obsession on this issue makes one wonder what is going through her mind. Apparently she doesn’t like the optical scan system. A system that allows the voter to have a paper trail while allowing the voter to correct any mistakes made on the ballot seems to empower the voter. Brunner apparently doesn’t see it that way. So if any of our readers has some information on this topic… please feel free to post what you have. I have a feelling this topic isn’t going away soon. It could have a direct impact on the November election process.
Board of elections Director Keith Cunningham is not working his last election and that may not sit well with Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner.
Brunner and Cunningham have publicly disagreed on election issues. Brunner, a Democrat recently removed Cunningham, a Republican, from one board. Today the Board of Elections re-organized, a 2 to 2 tie vote on Cunningham’s reappointment would mean a Brunner tiebreaking vote. Instead the Allen County Board voted four to zero to re-appoint Cunningham as Director, reportedly against Brunner’s wishes.
Ken Terry was named to replace Ida Kay Keller as Deputy Director beginning on March 29th. Keller is retiring after 14 years as deputy director.
