Remember Katrina and the move to seize weapons… even legally owned weapons from their owners in an effort to ‘keep the peace’. The effort would have left law abiding citizen’s defenseless while the law breakers would have them anyway.
Well the Senate panel has ok’d a bill that would restrict such power by the governor to use a state of emergency to place new restrictions on guns.
Arizona voters may get a chance to do something that Gov. Janet Napolitano would not: limit her power to take away their guns or limit their rights to carry guns during an emergency. On a 4-2 party-line vote, the Republican-controlled Senate Government Committee approved a measure Tuesday that would legally bar any governor from using a state of emergency to place new restrictions on the possession, transfer, sales, carrying, storage, display or use of firearms or ammunition.
Like Lucianne.com one might wonder if that wasn’t already covered.
Hmmmm, one would think that the language in Article 2, Section 26 of the Arizona Constitution would have things pretty well covered.
“Section 26. The right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself or the state shall not be impaired, but nothing in this section shall be construed as authorizing individuals or corporations to organize, maintain, or employ an armed body of men.”
Remember… in the case of rain keep your powder dry.
