Why try to urge a cease fire? Hezbollah, Lebanon and Syria are all entangled with Terrorists (ignoring Iran for the moment). Especially after the 911 attack on New York we found ourselves in a war on terrorism.
“We will starve terrorists of funding, turn them one against another, drive them from place to place, until there is no refuge or no rest. And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation in every region now has a decision to make – either you are with us or you are with the terrorists. From this day forward any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime.” (September 20, 2001).
So it goes without saying that Israel’s actions are consistent with both Israeli policy and also in line with the national security interests of the United States. It would easily be argued that ridding the world of state sponsored terror is in the best interests of the entire world.
Israel response points to the real problem if there is one in getting aid to those who need it.
“There is no need for a 72-hour temporary ceasefire because Israel has opened a humanitarian corridor to-and-from Lebanon,” said Israeli government spokesman Avi Pazner.
UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Jan Egeland had asked for the 72-hour cessation of hostilities to facilitate aid efforts.
Pazner said Israel was not blocking aid from reaching south Lebanon.
“It is Hizbollah which is deliberately preventing the transfer of medical aid and food to the population of southern Lebanon in order to create a humanitarian crisis, which they want to blame Israel for,” he said.
Ahhh…. France. At least they are consistent. They urge Israel to stop the fighting. It seems they don’t want their thug buddies to dry up and die. As it was in Iraq we see France doing the same in the latest conflict. Perhaps they also have a deal with Hezbollah like they did with Saddam.
Would it not be wise for Israel to continue north until the thugs are backed into Syria? Then establish a true democracy in Lebanon? If attacks continue… and they will… then go into Syria and do the same. Then they can remove the WMD’s that Syria is holding for Saddam’s cronies. Ahhh… but none of that will take place. The failure of 30-40 years of fake peace treaties will continue as a new “peace” can be established once again for all time!
