Or so one liberal seems to think.
“If Pennsylvania had one-gun-a-month legislation, gangs wouldn’t be coming here to buy carloads for handguns,” he said.
The sterling logic of the left is astounding. I can’t believe that they really believe this. Imagine a gang leader talking… “Man, we have to wait another 12 months to get enough guns to hit them. Let’s put off our drive-by until then.” But one lib touts fighting the 2nd Amendment as the way to fight crime.
Limiting guns sales would curb violence
The Issue: Legislation that would restrict the sale of handguns to one per person per month has been languishing in the General Assembly.
Our Opinion: Such legislation is needed desperately to reduce the number of handguns getting into the hands of criminals.
In his speech, Phillips blasted the National Rifle Association for exerting too much influence over the legislative process in Pennsylvania.
“As a result of the NRA’s generous campaign contributions, good legislation … that could truly reduce gun violence in Pennsylvania, has been bottled up in committees in both the Senate and the House in Harrisburg not just for months, but for years and years,” he said.
Phillips correctly rejected the stock criticism of NRA and other pro-handgun lobbyists who claim tougher laws would infringe on a citizen’s rights under the Second Amendment.
“Nowhere in the Second Amendment does it say that we cannot pass meaningful legislation that would keep guns out of the hands of gun runners, straw purchasers and others who intend them for harm.” he said.
That’s called intent to purchase with intent to commit a crime. Isn’t that already illegal and bars one’s qualifying to purchase a gun. Certainly a limit on the number of guns for the ‘gun of the month’ club won’t prevent gangs from getting around the law. That’s just what they do. How about the death penalty for any violent crime committed with a handgun geared toward gang violence? Suggest that and you get… “What good would that do?”

“intent to purchase with intent to commit a crime.”
so, how do you propose to surface an individual’s intent? dig up psychological records? perform a background check?
what about a clean slate that starts dirty only after acquiring a gun?
gun politics differs per region…heavily populated area (high population = more targets) vs hunting advocation in rural areas where police response lacks….
cho. crazy dude who got a hold of a gun. maybe if every student was armed with a semi-automatic…but a semi-automatic can unleash a clip within 30 seconds; and in a densely populated area, probably take out 8 people before another armed student would react (hopefully not being shocked by the surprise of an aggressive gunmen AND not being one of the first 8 victims)
