LANCASTER, Ohio (AP) – An Ohio pastor who helped push for Ohio’s constitutional ban on gay marriage is leaving his church for a fundraising job at his alma mater.Pastor Russell Johnson of Fairfield Christian Church will remain in Lancaster while raising money for Kentucky Christian University where he graduated in 1977.
University president Keith Keeran (kee-RON’) says Johnson has proven fundraising ability and public relations skills.
Johnson helped organize churches in the fight to pass Ohio’s gay marriage ban, considered 1 of the nation’s toughest after voters approved it in 2004.
That effort led liberal pastors to file a complaint with the IRS that accused Johnson of violating federal election law.

It’s President Keeran (Kee-RAN’)
I’m now serving as Assistant to the President for Leadership Development. I’ve been involved with Kentucky Christian University as a student, Dean of Student Services, Trustee and supporter for 30+ years. Most of my adult life has been woven with the university and her efforts to train leaders.
There is a tremendous opportunity in the harvest of changed lives on the horizon. My role is to help prepare a generation of young leaders who can stand and shine a light of reason and hope. Working with the KCU staff, we have been developing, Building For Eternity series and a teaching model for young ministers called “The Bridge” for mentoring ministers. I believe that our eternal hope is in Jesus Christ. That does not absolve us from civic responsibilities. Christian leaders have a tremendous opportunity to shine a light in the discourse of the public square and addressing the issues of our day.
