There are many interesting facets to this trial. One is the injustice. This man kills his girlfriend and an unborn baby in a fit of rage. He lies about it in order to cover up evidence and now he only gets life. Justice my foot. Now we have to pay for one more murderer in the system. In essence he remains on the public dole. It matter zip what color an officer is when this happens.
The other interesting facet is that some in Lima will cry racism. The officer is black and gets life. The officer in Lima was white and probably will not be charged. I little doubt that people will shift out the differences of these two cases. I suspect it will only fuel the fire that remains.
[USA Today] A jury just recommended life imprisonment for the former police officer who was convicted of murdering his pregnant girlfriend last June in Canton, Ohio.
Bobby Cutts Jr. had faced a possible death sentence. The judge says he plans to hold a sentencing hearing this afternoon.
If the judge follows the jury’s recommendations, Cutts may be eligible for parole after at least 30 years in prison.
The case of Jessie Davis, 26, received national attention in part because of the role the couple’s son played in the investigation. The 3-year-old boy gave investigators an important clue when he told them: “Mommy’s crying. Mommy broke the table. Mommy’s in the rug … Daddy’s mad.”
After denying any knowledge of her whereabouts, Cutts, 30, eventually led detectives to the missing woman’s body, which was wrapped in a comforter.
Cutts said during the sentencing phase that he accidentally killed Davis during an argument.
