False Report About Ohio Mosque Attack

Great Catch from Alana Goodman. Despite our stance on radical Islam and the dangers it presents to America we certainly don’t endorse sense attacks on people. However, this one report illustrates how false reports of “attacks” by Islamophobes will be used to garner sympathy. The attack on a Mosque in Ohio supposedly using chemical weapons turns out to be neither a chemical attack or a hate crime. More likely it was an attack by another person from the mosque.
However it doesn’t stop the liberals from using it to promote their own agenda. Hey, when it comes to the left’s agenda who needs truth? Read through or go directly for the complete article.
I would like to know how they feel about this video on the Dayton’s supposed hate speech against the people of this country. Oh. Sorry, you can hate the United States according to the new standards.
Walking to class on Tuesday, I couldn’t help but notice remnants of a rally decorating the steps of the Student Union. “End Islamophobia!” was scrawled on the sidewalk in chalk, and discarded posters read “Stop Bigotry!”
A flyer inside the Student Union explained that the rally was held to condemn a recent anti-Islamic hate crime that occurred at a Dayton, Ohio mosque. It was sponsored by the Muslim Students Association (MSA), as well as other campus groups like the International Socialist Organization, the SGA and the Office of Jewish Affairs.
The MSA’s Facebook page gave more details about the hate crime.
“On Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, Muslims worshiping in an Ohio Mosque were attacked by perpetrators who used chemical weapons against them. The chemical gas used burned at the eyes, throat and lungs of the 300 people inside the Mosque, most of whom were children. This was an act of terrorism perpetrated on American soil against innocent civilians who were engaged in their constitutional right to worship freely,” reads the page.
After reading this, I was astonished - as I’m sure you are - that such a despicable act of intolerance occurred in this country.
I was even more surprised to discover the catalyst for this violence.
“This horrific attack occurred shortly after the start of a distribution campaign in Ohio of an anti-Muslim documentary called ‘Obsession,’ which portrays Muslims as violent extremists, all in order to create an atmosphere of fear right before the Presidential Election,” the MSA reported….
Tags: Jihad, OhioSo John McCain supporters distributed anti-Islamic propaganda that incited a chemical warfare attack against hundreds of Muslims? How, I wondered, did the media fail to report this startling story?
Until I remembered that they didn’t.
The story first appeared in the Dayton Daily News on Sept. 27 under the title “Chemical irritant empties Islamic Society of Greater Dayton’s mosque.” The article reported that a 10-year-old girl was in the basement of the Dayton Islamic Society when two strange men came up to the window. The girl claimed that they sprayed her in the face with a can of pepper spray, or a similar chemical irritant….
HAZMAT crews, who arrived at the scene shortly after the attack, reportedly found no chemicals in the area or on the 10-year-old girl.
“Whatever chemical was released dissipated too quickly for us to determine what it was,” HAZMAT Team Coordinator Denny Bristow told the Dayton Daily News.Far from the image of carnage that Rodda’s article evokes, only the girl and another woman from the mosque were taken to the hospital after complaining of nausea. Some others at the mosque complained of eye irritation and a medical team cleansed their eyes on site with wet towels. There were no serious injuries.
But the story gets even more interesting. Police soon announced that they found what they believed was the offending can of pepper spray inside the mosque. An Oct. 7 article in the Dayton Daily News reported that police suspected a member of the Mosque may have sprayed the girl, and were questioning a 10-year-old boy in connection with the incident. Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl also said the incident wasn’t a hate crime.
Rodda has since apologized for exaggerating the event.“I was mad, so I sort of shot from the hip,” she told the Dayton Daily News….
“No,” was the terse reply from their Media Relations Director Ahmed Rehab. Two months after the incident, virtually no Islamic advocacy organization will touch the case.
So why are student groups on campus still insinuating that hundreds of Muslims were injured and calling this incident an “act of terrorism” when these claims have been blatantly disproved? Why are they promoting unsubstantiated belief that the movie “Obsession” contributed to this crime, when it’s now apparent that the attacker was probably another child at the mosque?
Sen. Keith Faber To Number 3 Spot

Sen. Faber will make a great addition to the top Senatorial Leadership position in Ohio’s Senate. He has been consistently conservative and brings a fresh breath of air to the Ohio Republican Political World. Appointed to take Jim Jordan’s spot he has risen to the occasion with flying colors. We expect that great things are in store for him and Ohio if he continues to have a positive and conservative impact.
Tags: Keith Faber, OhioCelina’s Keith Faber may help fill some of the power shortage the Dayton area will face next year in the Ohio legislature.
Senate Republicans on Tuesday, Nov. 18, chose Faber for the number three leadership post, majority floor leader. Faber (pictured) will join Senate President Bill Harris, R-Ashland, and Speaker Pro Tem Tom Niehaus, R-New Richmond who will hold the top two spots.
Sen. Mark Wagoner, R-Ottawa Hills, will fill the number four leadership spot, majority whip.
Celina isn’t right next door to Dayton but Faber’s Senate district includes Allen, Champaign, Darke, Mercer, Shelby and portions of Auglaize and Preble counties.
Next year the Dayton area will have fewer members in top leadership spots in the House and Senate.
House Speaker Jon Husted, R-Kettering, and House Speaker Pro Tem Kevin DeWine, R-Fairborn, will be gone from the House due to term limits.
Brunner For Senate

Let’s start this campaign now. Heck, it’s already two years out. Time to get this ball rolling. Several questions remain. Will U.S. Senator George Voinovich decide to retire and leave the seat vacant for an open seat race. If that is the case and in the current atmosphere would lead probably to a GOP loss. They would be able and highly motivated to outspend us. Of course several factors would weigh in… how is the Obama Presidency doing and how is Ohio is doing under the Democratic Governor at the time. If things are well she has a good shot.
Some how it would be best if there was a way to have Voinovich win the race and then have an appointment to the post somewhere in his new term (or an early retirement and appointment). Of course I am not sure of the procedure in the case of the Senate Race… someone out there must know. Fill us in. If the GOP doesn’t play this right that will be another Ohio Senate seat that will be DeWined. If one wonders what that is… it’s when you have a moderate Republican run as a conservative and act as a moderate. This will be interesting.
Tags: Ohio, Political Racesbelieve those are the choices facing Ohio’s current Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner (pictured below…I kind of feel like Jason Bourne in “The Bourne Supremacy” paraphrasing his quote to Pamela Landy: “Get some sleep, Jen. You look tired”…I digress)

An operative within the GOP ranks asked that I not write this blog post, but quite frankly I know there is no way this post will have any impact whatsoever on whether she does or does not run so screw it. I guess my mentality is this: If she surrounds herself with smart people who know what they are doing then she will run either against Voinovich if he does not retire or run for the open US Senate seat if Voinovich does retire. If, on the other hand, that is not the case then she will run for re-election to Secretary of State in 2010.
Why do I say such a thing with such confidence? Because oftentimes in politics timing is everything and you only get one bite at the apple. 2010 is Brunner’s one bite. Follow my logic here. Check out the article below:
http://www.daytondailynews.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/dayton/ohiopolitics/entries/2008/11/11/poll_voinovich_vulnerable_in_2.html
Jen Brunner’s numbers are about as good and as high as they are going to get as Secretary of State right now. Sure there were some ups & downs, but, by and large, she had a pretty decent election this year as Secretary of State. I don’t think she will ever have this amount of goodwill and good feelings towards her again among independents come 2010, 12, etc. Her apex is now.
Look at the scenario that she runs for re-election. She had $43K on hand in her campaign account in June 08. Since it is an Apportionment Board year she will probably be able to raise more than the $1.82 million she raised for her 06 election no matter who files against her on the GOP side of the aisle, but other than a little bit of help from Strickland and Redfern she will largely have to put together the dollars by herself…at a time where, on the D side alone, she will be competing with Strickland, Cordray, Treasurer Boyce, whoever is going to beat Mary Taylor, the candidate in the US Senate seat, the Congressional delegation…and the list goes on. There are only two things that can happen at this point: she wins her seat for re-election or loses. Even if she wins the seat where does that get her? Seriously….
So, that brings us to her other opportunity: running against Voinovich or running in the open U.S. Senate seat if Voinovich opts to retire. She will be in the driver’s seat with Harry Reid and the DSCC because she is the best candidate for the seat. Sure, she would have to raise some of her own money, but not a lot. The second she committed to running the Voinovich seat would join the Mel Martinez seat in FL as the top two targeted races for the dumbocrats in 2010. The DSCC and outside groups would dump more money in Ohio than has ever been dumped before for a U.S. Senate seat. It would make the Brown/DeWine spending paltry in comparison.

Casino Issue Arises For 2009

Lawsuits by casino proponents are already in the works over the ads. After consecutive ballot issues going down in flame it seems as though the lure of lucrative easy money is too much. Once again 2009 will most likely see the issue on ballot once more.
It wouldn’t be bad to have an true up or down vote. But the proponenets lie continually to the voters face. One man wanted his acreage enshrined in the Ohio Constitution so he could rake in millions. The lure was Ohio jobs and tax revenue. Proponents said there was no loophole but anyone in the know realize that once this casino opens then Indian Casino’s would be able to open across the entire state. Then instead of money going out of state they would go out of “country”. Indian Casino’s don’t pay taxes and of course there was the loophole.
Despite the “promise” to pay taxes no matter what comes across like a “I’ll say anything to get the mone”. See you next year on this Ohio topic.

Carnival of Ohio Politics #140

By the time you read this edition of the carnival, we could be about 140 hours from having a good sense of who, if anybody, accurately predicted the allocation of states, electoral votes and the popular vote between John McCain and Barack Obama. I don’t know about you, but I was just describing to someone else that I feel and see the time left between now and then as being similar to what an accordian looks like went it’s completely smushed and compressed…and out of air.
Being bloggers such as we are, however, means never being out of air.
